The Best Hotel Experience I’ve Ever Had – A True Hidden Gem in Kathmandu
I’ve stayed at countless hotels in my life, but never have I experienced one that filled me with such a profound sense of happiness.
When I requested an airport pickup, the hotel’s general manager himself came to greet me with a warm smile—despite the late hour. Once he realized I was Japanese, he kindly and effortlessly continued to assist me entirely in Japanese, showing incredible hospitality throughout my stay.
The room was immaculately clean—more than I could have hoped for. The air conditioning worked perfectly, and I was able to rest in complete comfort. Thanks to this wonderful space, not only did I recover from my travel fatigue, but I felt truly healed from the everyday stress I had been carrying.
Breakfast was another highlight. I had a choice between Indian-style meals, pancakes, or selection of egg. I went with the masala omelette, which was cooked to perfection and came with incredibly delicious potatoes on the side. While breakfast is served on the first floor, you can also choose to eat on the rooftop, where I enjoyed a breathtaking view of the Monkey Temple—it was a moment I’ll never forget.
But what truly sets this hotel apart is the exceptional hospitality of the staff. Whether I was returning to the hotel or heading out, they always greeted me with genuine warmth. When I asked about the room service hours, they told me there was a kitchen closing time, but they’d do their best to accommodate me at any hour. As my return flight was an overnight one, I had resigned myself to not being able to shower before heading to the airport. But before I even asked, the staff kindly offered me a late checkout, which was such a thoughtful and appreciated gesture.
With this level of service at such an affordable price, I honestly felt like I was receiving far more than I paid for. It almost made me feel guilty!
If I ever come back to Kathmandu, I will absolutely, without a doubt,...
Read moreI stayed at the hotel with my son in October 2023. The booking was made through a hotel booking website, but when I tried to submit a review, there was a system error. I had forgotten about it until now, so I decided to post my review on Google instead. We were in Nepal for our EBC trek. Our initial plan was to stay at Family Ties Hotel for one night only and catch an early flight the next morning from Kathmandu to Lukla. When we arrived, we were greeted by very friendly staff with welcome drinks. The room was spacious, clean, and well maintained. All the facilities were in perfect working condition. The included breakfast offered many delicious options. Unfortunately, our flight was cancelled 11 hours before departure. We quickly booked the next available flight, which was two days later from Ramechhap to Lukla. Since we needed to stay in Kathmandu for another night but the hotel was fully booked, the owner, Narayan, kindly arranged a room for us at an affiliated hotel nearby. He also helped organize transport from Kathmandu to Ramechhap. The van departed from Kathmandu at 2 a.m. from a meeting point about a 25-minute walk from the hotel. Impressively, Narayan woke up at 1:30 a.m. and personally walked us to the meeting point to make sure we arrived safely and on time. After our EBC trek, we stayed at the same hotel for one last night. It happened to be Dashami, the tenth day of the Dashain festival. Narayan and his family invited us to celebrate this auspicious occasion with them. We enjoyed a delicious feast and were blessed by Narayan and his wife with tika and dakshina (a small amount of money). Since our flight was at night, we were also allowed to store our bags and relax at the hotel while waiting to depart. This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. Our trip to Nepal would not have been as unforgettable if we hadn’t stayed here. As the name Family Ties implies, you truly feel like part of the family the moment you step inside. Highly...
Read moreI always feel like family when I stay at Hotel Family Ties! Especially as a first time traveler to Nepal, Narayan, his family and staff will make certain you have all the best information and necessary resources for whatever activities you are planning.
Narayan has waited for me outside the international arrival doors at the airport, made travel arrangements so I could sit on a luxury bus with single seats on one side (no one in a seat beside sleeping on my shoulder!), been up at 3:30am to walk me with my bags to catch a long distance Jeep at a specially arranged pickup spot nearby, listened and took the time to plan a trek suitable for an 'older' single woman and exchanged my money at an higher rate than the money changers in Thamel. I am so thankful for his many kindnesses over the years.
The Family Ties Hotel itself is very comfortable with attached bathrooms, balconies, the best showerheads, delicious meals and a great location just out of the main traffic and noise of Thamel.
There is a lovely rooftop sitting area and a garden area on the main floor along with the restaurant inside. It's also convenient to have a wonderful massage at the Seeings Hands blind massage center just a short distance away.
To me, the Hotel Family Ties is 'Home away from home' in Kathmandu. I'm certain...
