I really can’t say enough about my stays at Birds Nest Hostel. I spent the better part of three weeks at the hostel in November 2022 and consider it my home in Kathmandu. ||The place is very well kept and clean. The showers are as you like it. The staff is very welcoming and is always there to assist from setting up taxis, to excursions, and flights. The owner is also attached to travel agency and I found it very easy and affordable to set up excursions with him to Chitwan, Pokhara and Lukla. They were able to handle any need I had during my stay with ease. ||The grounds are always in a state of improvement. The restaurant moved into a bigger kitchen and a new dining and sitting area was built and opened while I was there. The gardens are well groomed and I watched the exterior get a fresh coat of paint.||Birds Nest has a very positive and relaxed atmosphere with some people just passing through on the way to a trek while others are there working remotely. Intelligent conversation over tea, coffee or cold beverages can be found here with the staff and guests.||The restaurant includes many local dishes and a choice between a continental or Nepali breakfast. An espresso coffee bar is available along with beer and soft drinks. ||Amod and “Monday” really made my stay at Birds Nest a special one and I look forward to returning...
Read moreWe had a fantastic 7 day stay at the Birds Nest hostel.
The place is new and super clean. The rooms and washroom are clean and the linens in the rooms are of top notch quality. Hot water in the bathroom is not a problem. The host/owner family stay at the same place and they are the most helpful.
Amod, the host is ever smiling and ready to help with whatever we need. Awaz the hostel manager handling the front desk is always available to deliver as per our request.
The place has green areas and a front lawn and we woke up to birds chirping everyday outside our window. The view of Swayambhunath Stupa and the hills from the hostel are a pleasure to the eyes. Being slightly outside thamel helps in cutting down the noise considerably and it is a very small walk to thamel and the eating joints there if you feel the need.
We were here during the lockdown and we enjoyed the traditional nepali dal bhaat for our meals here. Very reasonably priced with a new curry and saag and chutney each day to taste. Amod's dad goes to the market everyday to get fresh veggies to cook the meals with.
Amod setup a barbeque one evening and we had a gala time. Dinner on one of the evenings was momo's and the family allowed to join them in making momo's too!
We would love to stay here when we are in kathmandu again. Thank you so much bird...
Read moreIt's already overwhelming sometimes to arrive in a big city and not knowing where to go and this place, simply said, wears its name like no others. ||||While being a very walkable distance from the crowded Thamel area, you can also find this loving, quiet and caring place. The bird's nest was for me my "coming back to" and like many others, we constantly turn out to re-meet without planning anything... And even though it was surprising, it is with no surprise that people kept on coming back here. ||||The place has surprisingly a lot of nature for being so centred! Starting from a beautiful garden ready to take any event such as BBQ evening, fire spinning or even jamming session.. You know, hostel lifestyle ~ Adding to this, you also have about 3 to 4 more places to hang out with others or by yourself. Clean rooms and bathrooms, hot showers and even a kitchen from which you can either order or make yourself something nice... ||||So overall, this place is a great starting, going through and ending point where you will always be encouraged to be yourself and can truthfully leave stuff behind. So stop searching, this is where you will come and thank me later telepathically for this recommendation 🤗 Enjoy your journey wherever it leads you,...
