I went with this company as it was recommended by another group that was going at the same time. It was raining heavily in Katmandu when I landed and no flight were leaving Ramechapp airport for Lukla, Finally, Mr. Babu suggested that I go on my own with only a porter (and not guide) and got me on a helicopter to Lukla.
The porter, Kiran, was fantastic. He took care of me the entire trek and guided me every step of the way. He changed plans as needed depending how fast or slow we were going. He helped when I was tired and caught me a couple of time when I slipped on ice on my way to EBC from Gorak Shep. He was the highlight of the entire trip. because of him, I had a fantastic trek.
Trouble started when we arrived back in Lukla. I had to let Kiran go as he wanted to go to his home for Dussera. No flights were leaving Lukla due to weather. Mr. Babu told me talk to the hotel guy and arrange for a helicopter trip. He also said that I need pay for any lodge expenses in Lukla. He said he cannot help me in that regard from Katmandu. After much cajoling and paying $500 to the hotel guy, and waiting in the helipad on 2 consecutive days for 4+ hours, I finally got on a flight to Katmandu.
The company did not receive me or arrange for my transport from airport to hotel. I had to find my own taxi ride. The same happened the next when I had to go to airport to catch my return flight. Mr. Babu basically left to my own devices once I left on my trek. This was very disappointing.
He has not answered my call to return extra money he charged as the trip cost was based on guide and porter and I only had a porter.
Overall I was very dissatisfied in the way the whole return trip was (not) organized and...
Read moreI cannot recommend highly enough going with Adventure Great Himalaya, a locally owned and operated company with many years of experience, to receive a first class personalised and affordable service.
Babu, the company owner, was able to adapt and customise the trip according to our needs. Communication was excellent, Babu was very responsive to all questions, and provided excellent advice.
The trip was exceptionally well planned and organised to ensure adequate acclimatisation for us to safely complete the challenging Everest Three High Passes trek - which also included three high peaks!
We enjoyed a variety of lodges to fully experience the Nepalese culture on our trek.
When the domestic flight was cancelled due to bad weather, Babu was able to arrange a helicopter flight whilst waiting in the airport to allow us to maintain our schedule and saving us two days of trekking that would otherwise have been missed.
We were extremely lucky in the porters provided for us, Ram and Rajar, who were endlessly supportive, always cheerful, and had the experience, knowledge and skill to be future guides themselves.
And a special shout out to Krishna, our guide, who made the trip the all round amazing experience that it was. Everything was perfectly and seamlessly organised and nothing was too much trouble. Krishna was a source of endless information, dynamically reacting to the inevitable challenges that arise on a 17 day trek in the Himalayas, whilst always maintaining his wicked sense of humour. In short, Krishna made the trek so much more fun whilst at all times being reliable and professional. We will...
Read moreI am a Japanese beginner mountain climber, and I booked 10 days EBC trek tour of this company as a solo traveler. If you are participating solo, you will be traveling alone with only a guide and no porter, so you will have to carry your own luggage. Although it is recommended that EBC treks take at least 12 days, including acclimatization days, I took this 10 days tour because of my limited vacation time. There are two major risks to this challenge: the first is the increased risk of altitude sickness, and the second is the disruption of the itinerary if domestic flights to and from Lukla are stopped. Since my guide, Mr. Om, controlled these risks perfectly, I was able to complete my itinerary without a hitch! Mr. Om gave me Zolamide (Diamox) as a precautionary measure against altitude sickness once I reached a certain altitude. He also monitored the status of the flights to and from Lukla and made appropriate adjustments to my daily itinerary to ensure that I could successfully board the plane. He has been guiding for over 15 years and knows many people in the Everest area, so he is always up-to-date on the latest information passing by them along the way and always makes the best arrangements for timing and location of meals and lodging, thus you can always depend on him. As the company has succeeded trekking for a beginner like me, I am sure they will succeed with your...
