This hotel is so damn good that I wrote about it in my third book. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. The food in the café is excellent. So are housekeeping service and cleanliness. The location is perfectly close to the Boudha Stupa and many other attractions while being set off from the main action enough to not be too hectic. There is a bit of village feel within the big city. The Pema combines all the modern conveniences with reasonable rates. It is one of the few hotels with heat and AC. Along with many of the major things you would be looking for in a hotel, there are a lot of extra benefits here that may not often be considered, but are very important. Many merchants, hotels, and business people will stretch the truth to just short of the breaking point, and sometimes well beyond it, in order to get you to make a purchase or rental. The Pema Boutique administration consists of the most honest and trustworthy people I have met during my many years of traveling in Asia. Many other hotels advertise hot water. Much of the hot water in Nepal works off of solar panels. When the sun fails, owners often won't crank up the electrical back up heating system. They want to save money on the electric bill. At the Pema Boutique Hotel, your shower is always hot. Many other hotels have plumbing that is less than ideal. You can flush a grapefruit into a Pema toilet and it will go down. The front desk staff caters to your needs quickly and are very knowledgeable of the area. They will not only tell you, but also help you, to get where you want to go. For example, street taxis will often inflate prices for tourists, and you have to walk a bit to find one. The Pema staff knows who to call to get you the most inexpensive fixed-rate taxi in town that will come pick you up right at the hotel door for a cheaper price than the ordinary street cabs charge. Excellent facilities, location, and good value for money notwithstanding, the strongest benefit at Pema is the staff. They somehow treat you like an honored guest while catering with incredible efficiency to your needs, and at the same time make you feel like a friend. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Kathmandu and if you come here just once, neither will you from then on. I should also mention that the Pema administration cares for its community as well as it does for its guests. They have run projects to feed street dogs, facilitate women's health and literacy, and done many other good works. The price here is right but even if it cost twice as much, I would pay it. It is worth it to me to know that decent people doing decent things are getting my money, as opposed to having it go to some greedy hotel chain or owner that is only interested in personal gain and doesn't care as much about the comfort of its guests, or at all about the well-being of the many needy people and other living beings that can unfortunately be found too readily on the streets...
Read morePema Boutique hotel is a most welcome addition to accommodation choice in Bodhanath. I took up one of the two roof apartments beginning of June 2020 and in my experience Pema Boutique right now offers the best value in Boudha. Only 5mins walk from the stupa makes it attractive choice for visitors who come for the kora round the stupa, but for all guests the tranquility of pedestrianised stupa complex & it's monasteries/gompas, shops, the tibetan culture & rituals, are right here at Pema Boutique doorstep. Pema Boutique is modern, spotlessly clean & well appointed in every way AC/heating, hot showers, everything works well both in rooms and in the equally attractive communal areas of cafe/ restaurant, lounge. Good coffees & freshly prepared sandwiches on offer as are well prepared meals. Plenty wi-fi points n different seating areas make this an attractive space to meet friends too. Pema is family-owned and the brother-sister team are always on-site, committed to making Pema the best value experience for visitor be it short-term or long-term, or group. All of their team, from competent barista n chef to housekeeping, are equally committed n work to high standard. They owners have good links with the local trekking & travel companies and can assist with wide range of itinerary, transport, guides and so on. As well as all aspects of permits, visas and so on. I had good arrangements on number of occasion, they are very professional n listen to your needs, then negotiate the best deal n people. Pema Rooms are compact but extremely well-appointed [mini-fridge] - several with balcony - n offer best value for money in Boudha in my experience. The apartments are priced most attractively for long-term stay and are the best value I have seen locally. They look out on to roof terrace and there is a lift. Which I particularly appreciate as am Disabled - any disabled guest can access all guest rooms easily thanks to the lift,, In other Boudha guest Houses before discovering Pema Boutique hotel , all too often I found myself in dark freezing lobby and restaurant, in tired over-priced rooms. Or not being able to even access rooms as majority guest houses/hotels have no lift. Here in Pema Boutique management and all the staff go out of their way to give every help n assistance...
Read morePema Boutique Hotel||Kathmandu||Simply The Best||888157643||I travel extensively. The more I travel around Asia, the more I appreciate the Pema Boutique Hotel. The Pema is not only the best mid-range hotel on the continent, it is also better than most high-end luxury hotels I have stayed at. Whatever you need, they get it done--and with a smile. Everyone from the owner through the housekeeping staff including the servers, desk people, café kitchen folks, and management are wonderful examples of what human beings should act like. It is not just for business sake that these people stand out so far ahead of the staff at other hotels. That is just who they are. | The facilities are also top-notch. Many more expensive places advertise a good game but their function does not match up to their hype. The Pema's hot water is always hot and the plumbing is top notch (often a consideration in Asia!), if so much as a screw comes loose on a curtain rod it is fixed immediately, and there are considerations for older folks that most places in Asia do not have (elevator, excellent AC/Heater units, etc.). To top things off, the location is very close to the big Stupa but at the same time far enough away to be out of the main hubbub. Even in my very critical ancestral home of Brooklyn, New York, we would call this hotel and its crew a winner. You aren't going to find a better place to stay than this--not in Kathmandu or anywhere else. Have fun and be well. Doug Tenzin Rose, author ...
