I spent the sunny month of November 2013 here, and am likely to stay again. It is a slow paced 12 minute walk to the stupa through a less lovely part of Bodnath I'm told by the locals. I think they are referring to the trash heap one passes on one route, the dogs which bark a LOT throughout the night, and the metal workshops surrounding that are rather noisy for about 12 hours a day. Still, I liked the area and location. It felt safe. Taxi drivers rarely knew where it was located so be sure to carry the hotel card with you, and have them call the front desk for directions if you are not clear. The staff is willing to help, so ask!||The hotel itself supports a monastery and is generally clean, calm and a lovely place to stay. It seems to have the most reliable hot water in the area! Every day it worked beautifully! There was wifi too. For most of my stay it was filled with people in town for various Buddhist programs. The morning breakfast, which is included in the rate was fantastic and a good start to the day. About half the time an egg was offered. If you need protein, you need to provide that during the non egg days.||Make sure that when you make a payment you get a receipt on the spot to insure clear book keeping and...
Read moreFirst time ever in Nepal - September 2014. First few days of Kathmandu was a total assault on my senses - this hotel was a beautiful spick & span oasis. Very helpful, friendly, sincere staff and management. An excellent base from which to venture out into Boudha, greater Kathmandu and region. I enjoyed the facility of a room with kitchenette. Wifi good. Hotel can provide transport at competitive prices. Tasty cooked breakfast - usually delicious omelet. I'm not a Buddhist but very interested in cultures. Hotel website photographs are accurate. I believe the gates are locked at night so late arrivals would have to be managed. Doudha is a district full of shop front craft, metal smiths, fresh fruit, veggie and meat, ICT, pious object vendors etc...Western style cafe's are found around the Stupa - for...
Read moreI stayed at Hotel Ngudrup for 9 days in July and I truly enjoyed coming 'home' to this sanctuary. Lama Pema and the others here were always welcoming - including 'Johnny', the hotel's Labrador / mutt who was the calmest dog I have ever encountered. The room was spare but comfortable and clean with a private bathroom an hot water at all times. The terrace was airy and gave access to intermittent internet access. (Better internet access can be found at 'Favorites Cafe' down the street though). The hotel is a 7 minute walk to the Stupa (temple) in the Boudha area of Kathmandu. Largely Buddhist, the area is quite calm with a variety of clean restaurants nearby. Both teh area and the hotel are oases in the frenetic city...
