On the list location but heard different story about the place
Hard to get a reservation this is due to the hype and also the limited tables even though they try their best to get as much table as possible, but it is lovely crowded.
The service are very friendly, young, vibrant and approachable. Lovely extend wine list even though it is a small restaurant, the prices are though with some premium but not 3x market price more a
Read moreIn short: decent restaurant with good products and friendly staff, yet too expensive for what it is. They could do better if the kitchen pushed themselves a bit more and if the waiters were more knowledgeable about the wine. Extensive version: we visited here yesterday with a group of 3 friends, the restaurant was already on our to-do list for quite some while. The staff was very friendly, the setting very cosy. We ordered the 5-course menu, whereby you share 3 starters and then have an individual main and dessert. Lovely concept. They don't do any wine pairing, and when asking about specific wines the waiter wasn't really able to explain them to us. It went from fresh to full-body and more full-body. That was a pity. Overall, the wines and products they used were of good quality, yet the dishes weren't really that advanced for the price you pay (e.g. carpaccio, creme brulee). The portions are also not that big/filling. Usually, when going to a proper restaurant, the 5 course menu suffices and I don't eat any bread to really enjoy the taste of the dishes. Here, they kept on giving us bread, basket after basket. Even with the bread, the three of us felt so hungry that we ordered the cheese platter. We ended up paying +€110 per person, for a dinner that was good but not in line with the price you pay. Will take some time before I...
Read moreMy wife and I spent New Year 2018 in Amsterdam. For the evening before New Year's Eve we wanted to find a restaurant where we could experience some of Amsterdam's finest local cuisine.
We found Gebr. Hartering in the Michelin Guide. It's on the quieter edge of the main tourist areas but, like everything in Amsterdam, as easy walk.
The two brothers Hartering have an unusual concept. Each day the starters and desserts are fixed, and so you only have a choice of main course. Even then, there are only three choices. Sounded off-putting but we thought why not?
Very glad we did. You receive a selection of starters and deserts served on a plate stand so you can try several. My favourite was a grey mousse that turned out to be Mushrooms Boykin, their own creation. Superb.
The whole meal was sublime, with the fixed menu allowing the chef to present a meal where the different parts complemented and added to each other, not so easy where diners choose their own combinations.
The staff were friendly, as all Amsterdammers are, enjoyed talking about the food and overall the service, ambience and the other necessities for a fine night were excellent.
Highly recommended for an evening you will remember as a highlight...
