I’m not usually someone to rate places, but I feel strongly that this place needs major improvements.
My main issue: employees gaslighting and lying to us. On the first day, the employee gave us the wrong key and put us on the wrong floor. When we asked for the right key, the employee incessantly insisted that we were wrong and this mix-up was impossible. When we finally convinced her to check her records so that we could get the right key, she realized she was wrong and kept calling herself stupid and saying it was an impossible issue to fix and she wasn’t sure what we should do because we couldn’t stay. We told her we would sleep and figure it out the next day but she insisted that it wouldn’t be possible. We finally spoke to a different person the next day and said they we could stay in that room and the other person was just in panic mode. A few days later, when we told the employee that there was mold in the bedroom and I was allergic, they flat-out lied about the mold not being mold (though they did move our room to another one).
Other issues: the website lists some information unclearly or inaccurately. Breakfast is not included, the check-in time isn’t until 2 pm, and the 4th floor and 3rd floor differ greatly in quality. The fact that there are shared bathrooms is also not properly emphasized. Even though you pay the same price for the same type of room on each floor, the 4th floor has a very small bathroom while the 3rd floor has a very nice bathroom. People with very wide hips will likely not be able to fit into it or up the very steep stairs to the 4th floor, which are numerous and very difficult. Another thing: the 4th floor has an angled roof, which makes it common to hit your head. The beds and pillows are incredibly uncomfortable. You don’t get a flat sheet, which would be helpful because the blanket became too warm. The duvet cover only loosely covers the comforter.
Overall, this was an incredibly unpleasant hotel. The neighborhood was nice, but it absolutely was...
Read moreThis hotel is well placed for the museums. After booking, I received a very helpful "How to get there" email and, although I walked from the Centraal Station, the 397 bus passes the door and would be a very good way of reaching the hotel from the airport. Forget this hotel if you don't like stairs. The hotel states that it does not have a lift but, after the first 10 stairs to the door, there are another 40 or so to reception. However, once you are there, you are in a delightful hotel.||||The breakfast room, where there is tea and coffee all day (with biscuits) is bright and sunny and a room that inspires one to be creative. Whilst here, I should say that the breakfast starts at 0830h. Not a bad breakfast and normal for the Netherlands (no hot food).||||My room was at the back and up two more floors (another 38 steps!). Comfortable with a wash basin, desk. Can't remember if there was a TV but I think not. WiFi worked well. Toilet and shower rooms were off the corridor outside. My room was quiet and very light.||||The price was good value for summer in Amsterdam and location. The place was very clean. The management were helpful and keen to give advice should one need it (for instance, suggesting places nearby to eat where the locals might go, advising on a local market etc.)||||If you are reading this review and want to go to a museum, just a reminder to book on line beforehand. The Van Gogh Museum had a two week waiting list when...
Read moreMy sister and I recently stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. It was a fraction of the price of nearby hotels, so I came in with pretty low expectations. I have to say, I actually loved staying here! We stayed in a room with 2 surprisingly comfortable twin beds, and had a shared shower and bathroom down the hall. Shower had plenty of hot water and always seemed to be clean. This hotel is in an excellent location, right on a corner overlooking Rijksmuseum. Van Gogh Museum is also just a couple minutes away. The public transportation was steps out the door, making it very easy to get anywhere we needed. There is also a frequent direct bus to and from the airport, which was 6 Euros each way. The free breakfast (bread, ham, cheese, a soft boiled egg) was basic but good, and the breakfast room was bright and cheery. Staff is helpful and they even let us keep some sodas in their kitchen fridge. The only thing about this hotel that may not be for you is the steep stairs. We didn't mind them at all and had packed very light, but would have had trouble with a large, heavy suitcase. Overall, a great stay...
