Disappointing Experience, Despite Good Location
I recently stayed at this hotel for three nights, booking two rooms for four people (two per room), and unfortunately, our experience was largely disappointing.
One of the rooms we were assigned was incredibly small, making it difficult to move around, open our bags, or even take a shower comfortably. After raising our concerns, we were assisted by a staff member named Troy, who was very helpful and understanding. He promptly arranged for us to be moved to a larger room on the second day, which we appreciated. However, the inconvenience of the first night had already dampened our experience.
Another significant issue was the lack of air conditioning in both rooms, making them uncomfortably hot, particularly at night. This was especially difficult for my 76-year-old mother, who struggled to cope with the heat.
The most distressing incident occurred when my mother got locked inside the toilet in room 19 due to a malfunctioning door lock. She was alone at the time, and since we were staying in a different room, we couldn't hear her calls for help. She was understandably very frightened, and this situation highlighted a serious safety concern.
Additionally, we were unpleasantly surprised to find out that we had to pay a city tax upon arrival, as this had not been mentioned during the reservation process. This unexpected charge added to our overall dissatisfaction.
Despite being categorised as a 3-star hotel, our experience suggests it should be rated as a 2-star establishment at best. The quality of the rooms and the overall service fell short of our expectations.
The only redeeming feature of this hotel was its convenient location. While Troy's assistance in changing our room was appreciated, it doesn't fully make up for the various issues we encountered during our stay. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel unless significant...
Read moreI would not recommend this Hotel for any Indian or Asian tourist for the sheer racism and snobbishness that we faced here. I would just narrate my experience here for the readers to make a judgement on their own.
The hotel had a 'Tours and Tickets' booklet kept at the Reception with the same booklet being also kept inside our Hotel Room as well. We checked into the Hotel in the late afternoon and went through this 'Tours and Tickets' booklet with various tours and their prices mentioned in the booklet. We selected an activity that we wanted to experience that evening in Amsterdam and went down to the Hotel Reception. I greeted and gently asked the guy at the Reception about that particular activity and where can i get the tickets. Upon this the Receptionist very rudely replied that "I have nothing to do with this". Surprised at this rude response I asked the reason why the booklet is prominently kept everywhere and even inside the Hotel Rooms. To this again he rudely replied that the Tour Company no longer exists and he has no knowledge of the booklet. I showed him the booklet and asked if the Tour Company no longer exists then what is the purpose of keeping the booklet inside the Hotel rooms if one cant book the tour. At this he got too agitated and stated that "You are lucky to get a Hotel in this location for today". This superciliousness and arrogance was too much of us and we simply left thanking him for his help.
As we strolled down to the Dam Square area of Amsterdam, we found that the 'Tours and Tickets' booklet company indeed existed and even had multiple offices in that area.
I leave it to the readers to decide whether this was not a case of clear cut racism being practiced by the arrogant...
Read moreYes, I booked late and got the lower floor single room, for the price I had expected more. The staff was very helpful. No complaints there. The room was small, but quite adequate for a few days. It looked directly out on the hotel's garden, which might bother some. Bathroom tiny, like all bathrooms in Amsterdam, but manageable. Décor was attractive, the bed and pillow were comfortable but paint chips were just about everywhere, even a burned cigarette hole in one of the chairs. The carpet was not clean. Breakfast was sub par. In Amsterdam I've always gotten more variety and better quality. Of course, it was largely preferable to spending who knows how much at a nice breakfast place in the area. You may have guessed, I love to load up big on breakfast and then stay out fully energized for as long as possible. This strategy may not appeal most people though. ||One of the big pros is, obviously, the location, especially if you are a museum fanatic like me. I was there to see the fabulous Vermeer exhibition at the Rijksmuseum so a 8-minute walk gets you first in line no sweat. And if like me, you've stayed hours in the museum, the short walk back to the hotel is a life saver. ||So, I'd love to be more lenient because the staff was kind and really helpful but I do hope to avoid disappointments for other travelers who are, unlike me, more concerned about the hotel they are in. I would suggest you don't get the lower level rooms and things might be better. Rule out breakfast though. Hope that...
