If you've got the tableware and dinnerware, all you need is Foodware. Close to Festina Lente on Looiersgracht canal, the cafe renowned for its photo-friendly outside statue of an elderly gentleman on a bench stroking a cat, Foodware is a restaurant and takeaway specialising in freshly prepared fine dining without artificial ingredients.
The inside has the appearance of a deserted garage which will appeal to those who favour the minimalist look. I would almost be willing to bet that, in a previous reincarnation, it was a deserted garage. The place feels more like a shop than a restaurant. You can almost always be assured of a seat, as the clientele are predominately those coming for a takeaway and those wanting to supplement a meal already prepared at home.
Cupboards, stocked with delicacies from small specialised producers, line the walls. Usually, there's an excellent assortment of niche gourmet products and delicacies, so it's worth popping your head in the door from time to time just to see what's on offer.
There's a smattering of tables and chairs in front of a large vitrine packed with trays of the dishes on offer. In the background, the open plan kitchen is a hive of activity.
Foodware offers international cuisine for vegetarians, meat and fish lovers. Dishes can be assembled in a "mix and match" fashion; Alternatively, the restaurant's meals consist of a main dish, plus a choice of two side dishes.
The menu always features at least two curry dishes, one of which is vegetarian. Chicken and salmon feature prominently, as do various pasta offerings. Side dishes are a choice of around half a dozen vegetable recipes, in addition to spaghetti aglio olio e peperoncini, minted couscous with cranberries and roasted pumpkin seeds, oven roasted Roseval potatoes with sea salt and thyme, and wild and Basmati rice.
For those not counting calories, the dessert menu offers tiramisu, carrot cake, lemon meringue pie, pear or lemon pie. Wash down with coffee, fruit juices and a great choice of beers.

Read moreI think it was the place I was more happy eating while in Amsterdam. I was really wanting to eat real and delicious food - not pizza, burger, etc etc. I wish I had more time to get back there but unfortunately didn’t on that trip.
The restaurant has this system: you choose from various options and create your own dish. You choose between rice, pasta, couscous, etc and then the protein - vegan proteins available!!! So nice - and then the sides which can be beans, salads, vegetables… The food was delicious, I was very happy and with the feeling that I ate something that would make me feel good. The staff was lovely, explained all the options for us - the names were in dutch. All a very...
Read morePlace N1 for sure if you want to get a pleasure from the food during the day. Friendly staff, chill atmosphere and super fresh tasty food (big portions)! I tried almost all options they have, never was disappointed. My favorite: truffle chicken, fish burger, lemongrass chicken, perfectly cooked broccoli... and everything else! A bit pricey(about 15), but worthy. The idea is you are choosing main dish, vegie and grain so you can mix and make the best out of it! Also tried their salads, still main options are...
