Cafe Turquoise — Restaurant in North Island

I used to get cafe turquoise every Friday night with my Flatmates, was like a thing. Mixed meat on chips Was $20 and the box was rammed full of meat, chips, salad and sauce. Winner.

Haven’t had it in a few months and thought I’d give it a go again.

Ordered, picked up, came home. Opened the box, and the portion size has, I would say halved. Barley any meat on there, and the tiniest bit of chicken possible. Next to no salad and a little bit of sauce. I sent photos to their Facebook page and gave them a call to see what was up, as this didn’t seem the norm.

Bloke on the phone said that’s the way the portion sizes have always been. I said it’s not as I could find photos on my phone if it when it was massive. He changed his mind and said that the portion sizes have changed now (prices have gone up to $23). He said that if I wanted to I could go down and get another one, but would’ve been pointless if the portion sizes are smaller now.

Anyway, much better value for down at Devon’s Turkish or Sumela. Will tell my mates and won’t...

Delicious Turkish food delivered with a helpful and efficient service. I really like that this place combines the best of having a Turkish Kebabs takeaway with a restaurant feel. We were eating in and I was curious to start with. You grabbed your drinks out of the fridge and that was a tough call between the beer or the range of fizz and juice, including many organic brands. Then wandered over to the counter to place your order. Another tough call. Do you get the standard kebab or burger or meat on chips or go for one of the fancier options on menu with salads and breads. I went with the mixed meat on chips because I was STARVING and everything smelt so good. No regrets. What came out was a pile of deliciousness. My jeans were stretched and I was pushed to finish it. Both for value for money and for quality of food, I would recommend it. Then the excellent service on top really seals the deal. You've got to check it...

Food was great, prices reasonable, good serving sizes, quick service.

12" Falafel kebab: a good size, and absolutely packed with salad and falafel, perfect amount of sauce for flavour without it going everywhere.

Falafel on chips: good serving size, garlic yogurt was lacking in the garlic department, other than that no complaints.

Turkish bread: serving size was ok, a little small for the $ but tbh I wouldn't want anymore as it seemed to be lacking something, possibly if the bread had some garlic on it or something like hummus to dip it in.. ..the bread was nice, lightly fried, texture was pleasant, but it felt wanting.

Fries: good texture, good serving size, $ mark is high for "some fries" but the quantity provided for the price was acceptable
