The Dawson Motel — Hotel in North Island

We stayed a night here on two separate occasions on a recent trip north to see my family – we’re from Lower Hutt and like travelling through New Plymouth and staying the night, to break the journey (the joys of being retired!)||We stayed in room 8 on our way north and room 1 on our way back home. Both are studio units. Room 1 was an access unit but still the same size and facilities, just a shower with a curtain all level with the floor rather than a shower box.||The rooms are very generously sized, and have a very comfy king sized bed. The kitchen facilities are great, as are the bathroom facilties. The rooms are always very clean.||I like that we have our own “mysky” in each room so we can record a programme to watch later if we wish.||We had a lovely meal one of the stays at the Hong Kong Takeaways (just around the corner on St Aubyn Street/SH44), which do a superb sweet and sour pork. They also do very reasonably priced fish and chip packages, hubby had a piece of fish, a hot dog, a potato fritter and a scoop of chips all for $9.90…very good value for money. We stayed a night here on a recent trip from Wellington to Auckland. We’ve stayed here quite a few times before and had our usual unit 6, a well appointed, clean, studio room. A very comfortable king sized bed and roomy bathroom.||||As always, an enjoyable stay.||||Our only disappointment was that Hong Kong takeaways, just a very short stroll along from the motel, was closed. We normally get their sweet and sour pork for dinner, it’s really lovely. We really liked this place. The lady at the front desk even said my name rightly. The check in process was easy-as, the room was really flash. The bed was very comfortable (it's a king size, I don't like king size they are too big, it makes it seem like my wife and I have to travel a long distance to be next to each other, anyways that's probably too much information and nothing to do with the place), the ensuite thingy was a great size and the kitchenette had everything we needed (well it didn't come with a maid/chef, so almost everything).
