Oceanic Student Hostel — Hotel in Waitematā

Absolutely filfthy, we walked in in complete shock. The furniture is so mangy and wrecked that I've found better things at the dump. They do not clean it at all, nor provide soap,towels or anything else. The bedding they gave us was used and dirty. Floors had old gum and dirt/dust all over them, as well as what appears to be old vomit and other bodily fluids... Huge holes all through the walls that have either been badly plastered over or covered with a bit of cardboard that has been sticky taped over it. No window in theroom we had - which we were not pre-warned of. And they expected $100 bond for all this? Absolutely disgusting. It's absolutely appalling and rude that they actually OFFER these rooms to people. And it's not even cheap!! We considered sleeping on a fiends hard floor with no linen in a bedroom smaller than our own simply because of how filthy and depressing the place is.DO NOT STAY THERE OR LET...

We stayed at the hostel during a five days trip in Auckland. We booked through Airbnb, and got really great prices! The place is really well located, imo. It’s in the city centre, and this close to a great variety of restaurants, cafes, markets etc.

The room, the restrooms, and the common areas were extremely clean and organised. I am really surprised to read other comments (especially older ones) saying otherwise. We had access to a very complete kitchen and laundry room as well. Our room had a fridge, a heater, a sink, and of course the other basic bedroom furniture, all new or in really great condition.

Ted, the manager, was always available to answer any questions we had. He was very polite when showing us the place.

I left my luggage there as they mentioned they will store my luggage for free. I put down a 150$ deposit, and was told I'd be reimbursed when I collected it. I had to leave the country for a few months and was returning. When I tried contacting them about picking it up, they never responded. I wrote several emails to establish contact. Established contact, and then mentioned my luggage and wanted to pick it up. They then ignored me completely.

No business which seeks returned income streams from travelers would behave in such a way. Obviously this place has other ways of staying afloat, because it definitely isn't operating on good business practices. I would guess the place must operate as a underground money laundering operation.

Don't waste your money, no matter how low the price. You're better off finding another hostel or...
