My Accommodation Experience in Auckland in February Initial Hotel Selection Issues During my search for accommodations in Auckland, I was introduced to four hotels by an agency. However, upon further research, I discovered several significant issues with these options: Cockroach Infestation: The presence of flying cockroaches was a major concern. Unreliable Hot Water Supply: The hot water supply was inconsistent, making showering inconvenient. Inadequate Housekeeping: Bedsheets were not cleaned or changed regularly. Unresponsive Complaint Handling: Despite multiple complaints, no improvements were made. Lack of Free Wifi: There was no complimentary Wifi service available. Advantages of the Ultimately Chosen Hotel After conducting thorough online research, I selected a different hotel that offered numerous benefits: Fully Equipped Kitchen: The kitchen was well-stocked with all necessary appliances and utensils. Consistent Hot Water Supply: Hot water was always readily available without any delay. Comprehensive Laundry Facilities: The hotel provided washing machines and dryers, along with complimentary laundry detergent. Daily Cleaning Service: Bedsheets were cleaned and towels replaced daily, except on Sundays. Scenic Views and Comfortable Environment: The hotel offered expansive views and a comfortable living environment. Prime Location: It was conveniently located near the city center, within walking distance to several popular supermarkets, including New World Metro, Furein Asian Supermarket, and Japan Mart City Central. If I were to visit Auckland again, this hotel would remain my top choice.

Such a disappointing service! I couldn’t checkin as the hotel’s front door is locked, no receptionist; following the instruction on the wall to dial #1000, the call only got connected after three attempts. The person on the phone doubted my request for checking in, saying there should be a receptionist—— I doublechecked and confirmed no one is there. He then put the phone on hold to check things out. I waited patiently, eventually got told the receptionist should be back in a few minutes. When I asked what if they don’t come back in time? The phone got hung up already. 15 minutes past, no receptionist whatsoever. Not a positive experience to start with. Wouldn’t recommend. Update: Room is clean overall, but has some issues: - shower water temperature is unstable - TV is not working - the door to balcony is extremely hard to open and close

A comfortable option for a short stay, be sure to pre book a parking space. Rooms are compact and reasonably well appointed. For a solo traveller or close couple a good option. Close to Auckland Uni and adjacent the lower end of the city, restaurants and the queen street strip are in easy walking distance. The street front rooms feature a vertigo inducing balcony but an interesting city view. No aircon but good airflow if you sleep with the windows open.

I am absolutely disgusted by the experience I had with Quest on Eden. I don’t even know where to begin, because the entire stay was nothing short of a nightmare.

First of all, I booked a "view" room, only to be greeted by a brick wall as my so-called "view." A brick wall. This was the so called auckland view they had on there website ? . How is this even remotely acceptable for any paying guest? There’s no transparency on your website, and you should be ashamed of misleading people into booking a “view” that’s absolutely nonexistent.

But that’s only the beginning of this absolute disaster.

The next issue came with the outrageous demand for a deposit of $200 or $850 cash. Seriously? I’ve stayed in many places, but I’ve never had to deal with such ridiculous and borderline extortionate demands for a “deposit” — especially without even a hint of justification. We didn’t even know what the hell this money was for. I’m sorry, but a hotel asking for hundreds of dollars up front for a simple stay is an absolute rip-

The rules... It’s one thing to have policies in place to ensure a pleasant stay for all, but the absurd restrictions at Quest on Eden go above and beyond. Apparently, talking too loudly is a fireable offense. I don’t know what world these people live in, but you can’t expect guests to whisper their entire stay! What’s next? No breathing too loudly? A complete joke.

When we arrived, the receptionist was actually fine, I guess. But once we mentioned we didn’t have the ridiculous $200 cash deposit, the attitude shifted instantly. The woman was on the phone, speaking in a language we couldn’t understand, and when we explained we had another payment option — providing our card details to secure the stay — she acted like we’d asked her to donate her entire paycheck. No flexibility. No understanding. No attempt to find a reasonable solution. She refused to budge on the deposit, and as a result, we were forced to wait outside for four hours. Four. Hours. Just to get enough cash to cover the deposit, so we could maybe stay for just one night. the cash deposit was more than the one night stay .

It was humiliating, frustrating, and an outright waste of time. It was like dealing with a robot that couldn’t comprehend basic human decency.

And to top it all off, the bed was an absolute disaster. I’ve slept on better slabs of concrete. It was rock solid, to the point where I was more comfortable sleeping on the floor. I don’t know what kind of joke this is, but for the price I paid, I expect a bed I can actually sleep on, not something that’s basically an oversized brick.

In conclusion, Quest on Eden is a money-grabbing, customer-disrespecting nightmare that I would never recommend to anyone, nor will I ever return. The lack of transparency, the outrageous fees, the poor attitude, and the completely unreasonable rules all add up to a stay that is absolutely NOT worth the stress or the price. It’s clear that customer satisfaction isn’t even remotely on your radar. I DO...

I was a bit worried having read a few negative reviews from recent guests. All the Covid protocols seem to be really good. The place was pretty much locked except to guests (bit more on that in a min) which is a positive I think. ||||The service was EXCELLENT. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful or more keen to please. There was a slight hitch with my room which they spotted before I did and they arranged a new room plus a very nice gift and card to say thanks. Plus I lost an item after I left and they really tried hard to find it for me in the hotel. So I really cannot fault the service and the friendly helpful staff. ||||The rooms are light, bright and clean and functional with some great views. I found the bed quite uncomfortable - 1 king = 2 singles so the part in the middle was v hard. Not a huge deal though. Curtains were cheap ready-mades and didn't actually cover the windows fully which is certainly a niggle and cheapens things, not to mention daybreak wake up.||||The thing with this apartment hotel though is the other clientele and general people in the area. I get the feeling that maybe there is a contract with MSD for people down on their luck or something like that as every time I came or went I would see scruffy odd-bods, there are "no loitering" signs at the door (hence why it's locked I think), and when I returned from dinner someone was smoking reeking weed next to the doorway. That was not a good look AT ALL.||||Plus during the night there were several very loud bangs - could have been doors closing I guess (they are the heavy smoke stop type) but otherwise I really don't know what they were. Disconcerting for sure.||||When on a business trip, and paying a pretty high rate, its not a good feeling to know you might be staying in a half-way house, and that's the feeling I had. I feel a bit bad saying that as the staff were SO good. I think they are working overtime to give business travellers a positive experience.||||I'm not sure what to say regarding recommendation here as nothing bad happened but if I was going to Akl again in the near future, I would be looking elsewhere and I will definitely be checking on what other types of clientele the...

I had a number of problems during my stay here. I came back to my room one night to find housekeeping had left the door the the balcony wide open! I tried to close it but it couldn’t be closed so I was forced to sleep a night with the door to balcony completely open! I told reception in the morning and it turns out the door was broken. They called tradespeople who worked on it that day (which meant I couldn’t access my room for parts of the day and that I didn’t get any housekeeping). The tradespeople were unable to fix the door (they were able to shut it but then it could not be opened). They wanted to work on it all day the next day as well but I explained that I actually needed to use my room that day. I asked it I could be moved room but was denied. My other problem resulted from a request I made at check in if I could leave my bags at reception till 4pm on my departure day. Reception said that would be fine as their reception close time was 4pm (as confirmed on all the printed information they gave me). Every day I saw the receptionist and she never indicate there was any change of plan. On the day of checkout as I tried to leave her my bag she told me that she was actually leaving at 2pm that day and that I would have to collect my bag before then! This caused a huge problem as I had already booked a tour that day based on the information she had previously provided me that I could leave my bags till 4. I also had some problems with amenities not being replaced even after I had asked for them at reception. Overall a very disappointing experience where my stay here completely disrupted my ability to...
