There may be a bible on the bedside table, but the people running this hostel are dishonest people. We have been victim of a robbery.
For sure the outside is very attractive, pretty colourful facades, an original universe inspired by Tintin, activities for everyone (swimming pool, volleyball, trampoline, slackline...). The place is even referenced in the Lonely! But the room is shabby, dark, dirty, uncomfortable... and equipped with a safe box (since our arrival in Panama it was the first time we had one available, we were delighted to use it... if we had known!). We had the unpleasant surprise of coming back in the evening and finding that it had been opened (the cover for inserting the security key was on the floor), our things had been searched and money was missing. The main door was locked, so it was an internal theft. Instead of showing compassion and understanding the situation, the owner got angry and immediately asked us for our passports and payment (which he should have done when we checked in, but when we arrived he wasn't there to greet us, the next day he saw us but didn't deign to come and meet us). Not to mention the "robbery", we didn't like this atmosphere, until now our previous guests had shown us a lot of sympathy, listening to us and being available to help us organise our stay (in this period of pandemic, the link with the few customers is something precious... obviously not for Pension Topas!) We remained very calm in this situation (and in the face of their accusations, because obviously they tried to turn the situation around, saying that it was a ploy not to pay for the nights) although we lost all confidence in the establishment. We were forced to pay for the 3 nights (minus a small compensation for the stolen amount), and to stay (the theft took place on the 2nd day... we didn't sleep very well, as you can imagine!).
These unfortunate events are part of the travel but we hope that through these few lines, other travellers...
