Disappointing After reading all the rave reviews we decided to try Cascomar. Our initial waitress was lovely and welcoming. Being in a different time zone meant that we were hungry very early so the restaurant was empty. The drinks took a long time and the assistant waitress was very grumpy as she set our placemats. We wanted something very light as we were jet lagged so I ordered the tuna and my husband ordered a salad with ham and the cerviche. My tuna was tasty as was the cerviche, but the Serrano ham salad arrived with just a huge amount of lettuce, a few Cherry tomatoes and a dollop of goats cheese. No ham. Upon bringing this to the new waiters attention, he went back to the kitchen and eventually came back with a plate of ham ( I had finished my meal) but no apology just that the chef was new. (which was probably why the meal took so long to come). The service was severely lacking and we were not offered any drinks or in fact given any service throughout the meal once our original waitress had left despite the restaurant being practically empty. The staff have clearly not be trained in the art of service or creating a whole experience. They did however give us a substantial discount on the bill, but the damage was done and our evening spoilt. So different from the experience we’d had the night before at a different restaurant. We won’t go back as the food although good wasn’t exceptional and to us, a good restaurant is about the whole package, and the attitude and service simply...
Read moreJust one word: Fantastic!
The service, the ambience, the table decoration, the sparkling clean glasses, the distance to the next table for privacy, the whole package is absolutely top class. The beef tartare refined with truffles gets a score of 10 from me on a scale of 1 to 10! The chef of the kitchen personally comes to the table and asks if everything is OK.
A brief eye contact and a small nod signals that I would like to have service. As soon as they notice that I am starting to prepare my cigar, the right ashtray system with a cutter and a lighter and a piece of wood automatically comes along so that I feel completely at ease and can light it as I am used to.
And this top service is to be expected from 15 Gault-Millau points upwards. I have a direct comparison because I am a gourmet connoisseur myself in Switzerland. I could choose which animal I wanted it from. I chose bison because it is a class finer and more tender. It costs almost twice as much. I visited this restaurant with a good friend from the USA and we both had tartare. She said it was one of the three best she had ever eaten in her life. I can only confirm that. Great value for money and atmosphere!
I give you 15 points from me personally. See you...
Read moreAmazing and a perfect experience. Great location on edge of cute Casco Viejo. Quickly seated outside with a cool tropical breeze and partial views of the water. They had a wonderful local band playing (not too loud) local music on guitar. The staff and servers were all friendly and attentive. Prices are reasonable for the location. The food was incredible and delicious - we haven't stopped talking about the salty eggplant chips drizzled in honey wow! We had the paella for two which they said would take about 45 minutes (but actually arrived early in about 30 minutes). It was also delicious and loaded with local seafood.... but could easily serve 4 people, just be warned. Overall a perfect evening highly recommended for...
