We had a very comfortable stay at Katari hotel
Rooms: They rooms are nicely decorated and cozy. The bathrooms have a water filter for drinking water which is convenient. Toiletries include Shampoo, Conditioner, hair dryer, robes, and slippers. They offer free coffee/tea. They provide snacks and drinks in the mini fridge for a fee. The beds were very comfortable as were the pillows. There's also cable TV which was great for relaxing at night.
Cons: the room gets quite stuffy and there's no AC but luckily the fan helps. The biggest issue for us was the noise which interrupted our sleep. We could hear snoring, people going up and down the stairs, the plumbing when someone showers, etc. We had to turn on the TV to drown out the sound. It's an old building so you can't do much about that but a solution may be sound machines for the room.
bathroom: the bathroom was nice. We did have an issue with the water temperature being too cold and we let staff know and they promptly fixed it. Be sure to let them know ASAP.
Breakfast: we loved their breakfast. They offer a buffet with cold items however they also offer several items you can order from a menu which is included. I loved the tamales and the avocado toast. The restaurant is located at the top of the building providing a great view. Breakfast with a view was a highlight of staying here.
Restaurant: we had the ceviche trio with drinks for sunset. The food was great.
Location: the location was excellent as you're in the city center (Plaza de armas). You're within a short walk to all the tourist sites. Right next to the hotel is a market which was very convenient.
Customer service: Excellent. They promptly fixed the water temperature issue. And when we arrived early we were allowed to check in early since our room was available. This was very helpful after a long bus ride from Cusco. Staff was very attentive and friendly. They also provided several restaurant and site recommendations. They offered a day tour of Colca Canyon that was half the price of what we saw on other booking sites so I'd book through them.
Shuttle Service: this was offered for $15usd from the bus station however it only cost us 10 sols (2.65 usd)...
Read moreWe have truly enjoyed our stay at the Katari Hotel. I have stayed in Arequipa for more than 2 weeks in various places, and unless you want to stay 45 min walking distance outside the city (near the Mirador Carmen Alto) THIS HOTEL HAS the most beautiful view of Arequipa. The restaurant / Breakfast place is at the rooftop, showing the volcano Misti and the mountains and the Plaza de Armas. The happy hour is a real bargain (and very well dosed in alcohol) with a lovely local band playing in the background. The breakfast buffet is plentiful and more than we could ever asked for. The rooms are spacious and extremely clean (a bit warm inside at times but they have installed fans if necessary).
We really could see that the staff was very thoughtful and took very good care of their guest because my father fell extremely ill on the day of our departure and Maribel, the receptionist, helped me call an ambulance, made sure we were covered with our insurance and accompanied us to the hospital, stayed with us for 4 hours to make sure we were okay or for some translation and also to help us cancel all our flights, until we had to be transferred somewhere else for an immediate operation. The whole staff at the Katari Hotel helped me go through this long week and kept checking out on me and about my father to make sure we were both doing okay. Truly the most careful staff I have ever encountered during my long term travels all those years. I will definitely be back...
Read moreThis hotel is located in the central square of Arequipa with a beautiful roof terrace overlooking the square. Everywhere is a really easy walk from here. Unfortunately the hotel reception and public areas in particular feel a little bit tired and in need of a refurbishment but it was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful.|The roof terrace is where you have breakfast and it’s the restaurant too. The breakfast was a little bit ordinary, there was a buffet area and some hot cooked items to choose from but the choice was limited and service was a bit slow. There was some nice freshly baked bread after about 7am which we’d recommend. Also the decaf coffee option was a jar of instant on the side for you to make your own, whereas they had proper coffee for those who drink caffeine. The terrace is a great place for sunset drinks.|The rooms have a tap with filtered water which is great because you can fill your bottles and never run out. The beds were comfortable and they had a decent set of toiletry options. The hairdryer was a fixed one in the bathroom which isn’t very good for my thick hair but they were able to provide me with another ‘proper’ one which was great.|We had a room overlooking the square for two nights and didn’t find the noise a problem even when there was a protest on. It finished by about 10pm anyway and after this it was...
