Il Caffè Della Nonna — Restaurant in Arequipa

Came on a weekday night around 6:30PM. When I arrived, there was a table of 5 and a table of 2. There was live music but it was loud (and the singer wasn't the best). I put in my order shortly after arriving (pineapple juice without sugar and a prosciutto / apple / arugula pizza). Turns out I had to wait for 4 pizzas and 3 lasagnas to be made before I got my food, and I waited about an hour for it. Really ridiculous! Everyone gets complimentary focaccia and hummus (but the focaccia is really just...thin slices of bread, not really sure what it is exactly), and they gave me a cinnamon roll with apple / apple syrup while I was waiting forever for my food. I had thought about ordering one for dessert but I'm glad I got it comp'd because it wasn't very good; not chewy and fluffy, just sweet bread.

Pizza finally arrived, I asked for olive oil and something spicy (ended up getting spicy olive oil) - olive oil didn't have any flavor. Pizza was thin and chewy, pretty good but I didn't like the apple (that's just personal preference though, not a fan of salty and savory, I probably should've asked for it without the apple).

In any case, their kitchen seems to be extremely small, the table of 5 got 2 pizzas, then much later, 1 lasagna, and by the time the last 2 pizzas arrived, the two people who already got their pizzas had already finished them.

Just too slow. Prices were alright, typical of the area I guess. Workers...

“Truncaron mi semestre en la universidad”Soy un estudiante de la Universidad Católica de Santa María de la carrera de Publicidad y multimedia el cual solventaba parte de sus gastos trabajando en el área de cocina, ahora soy un ex trabajador del restaurante despedido sin base legal e injustificadamente por uno de los dueños y de excusaron de excusa la pérdida de un insumo de cocina para no pagar, simplemente por el hecho que por la apertura de su nuevo local en el centro de Arequipa, al parecer no tienen para pagar y se valieron de una excusa de un “supuesto queso parmesano” perdido para no pagarme, me empeñaba en que las comida saliera lo mejor posible me relacionaba bien con los clientes los cuales dejaban buenas propinas, porque creía estar en un lugar con jefes buenos, pero usaron excusas para no pagarme, muy rica la comida y todo pero pésimos jefes explotadores. Por culpa de ellos tuve que parar matrícula en la universidad porque me acaban de descuadrar mis gastos del mes y todavía tiene cierto jefe el descaro de decir que me vaya a quejar a la Sunafil, sabiendo el perfectamente que me saldría más caro proceder legalmente que simplemente me pagaran… que mal que un propio ciudadano Peruano, sea explotado por un jefe que no es de su país, en este caso un extranjero Venezolano que cree saber todo y cómo dirigir un equipo de trabajo y no teniendo ni para pagar a sus...

This spot is such a lovely find in Arequipa. We initially went for brunch after a long night bus and it was so good we ended up going for dinner too. The place is owned by a wonderful couple who are engaging and fun. The coffee was the best we have had in 3 weeks of travelling Peru and the pizza is handmade with a sourdough base - it’s rare to find such well selected ingredients as on this menu! Thank you to you both for making us feel so welcomed...
