Before arrival, I messaged the property and never heard back, even though they saw the message. When I arrived, thankfully people were around to check me in, I realized later that the common area is not always open, I don't know how people are supposed to check in otherwise. Kitchen / fridge / common area access are all dependent on whether the owners are around - they aren't around randomly in the day. I wanted to rent a jacket and they told me to come back at 6PM. Am I the customer or are you? I also had to call the owner at 4AM to ask for the door to the common area to be open so I could grab my food from the fridge.
Stairs are super narrow, bathrooms are super small. I stayed here two nights, one night had water, decently hot for the shower. The other day had no water starting from about 2PM, I sent a message on WhatsApp to the owner and was told to come back later. I did, and there was no water when I left the next day either (around 4AM), was pretty annoyed that I didn't have a shower before Huayhuash.
During the evening, people were talking outside, there were no windows in my room, only a window to the stairs area, it was noisy and not a great experience.
Location is a bit far from the center of town, and it's at the bottom of a hill so anytime you want to go somewhere, you need to go up.
Breakfast is included although no breakfast on Sunday. I arrived Saturday really early and was offered my (Sunday) breakfast on Sat instead which I appreciated. Wifi was good, no...
Read moreRonald and Yudith (and Thiago) are the most accommodating hosts and they make the hostel feel like a home. I spent 6 days here in January and aside from the more than reasonable prices and comfortable rooms, there is an open kitchen, hot water in the showers, gear available for rent and purchase, and always cool people to meet that are passing through. They also let my group store gear in the hostel when we went on excursions for multiple days at a time. More than this, Ronald and Yudith make breakfasts of fresh fruit and tortillas or pancakes everyday but Sundays. The hostel is within walking distance of the town center, Plaza de Armas, other markets, and places of interest in Huaraz. 20-30 min walk to local climbing crag too. Additionally, Ronald runs a tour guide business, Huayhuash Adventures, and can provide you with information, contacts, and tours in the beautiful Cordillera Blanca. He is very knowledgeable of the region. I highly recommend that you stay here if you are passing through Huaraz or need a relaxing place in between expeditions in the mountains. I would definitely like to...
Read moreLocation is good, 10 mins walk down or up a hill to the centre of town. The building is freezing, even during the day its ice cold in the rooms. The room is clean but the facilities are old, we also had a window that faced the stairs with no blinds and another window in the door, again with no blinds. We barely slept, both because we were freezing but also because at 4am, people begin to start their tours, slamming doors, talking loudly and all sorts, because the windows are about 1cm thick you hear everything. The common room is also shut constantly, you have to call for it to be open which doesnt make for an interactive enviroment. It feels like the tours come first and that they just have some rooms availiable. Personally wouldnt recommend, even though the price is low. Breakfast is fine if you are okay with gluten, e.g its bread and pancakes....
