I recently completed a 10-day trek through the Huayhuash mountains with Huascaran Adventure Travel, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From my initial communication with the owner, Paulino, it was clear this was a well-run, professional operation. Paulino was incredibly helpful, providing detailed information about the trek and costs upfront, without ever requesting a deposit—just a simple verbal commitment that we would join. This level of trust and transparency immediately reassured me of the integrity of his company.
A few days before the trek, we participated in an acclimatization hike where we met our assigned guide, Robert, who has 16 years of experience leading treks, as well as the rest of our group. Paulino kept us well-informed every step of the way, ensuring we were fully prepared for the adventure ahead. On the day of the trek, they arrived promptly to pick us up from our accommodation and transported us to the starting point.
Throughout the trek, we were incredibly well taken care of. Every day we were provided with three full meals, a snack bag, and a tea-time snack—plenty of fuel for the journey, with a variety of delicious, hearty dishes. Each morning, Robert greeted us with hot coca tea and warm water for freshening up, a small gesture that made a big difference in the chilly mountain air.
The equipment provided was in great condition, and we stayed comfortable and warm throughout. Paulino made sure we had more than enough staff and pack animals to support us, ensuring both safety and smooth logistics.
A delightful highlight came on the final day, when we were treated to a pachamanca—a traditional Andean feast where meat and potatoes are slow-cooked underground with heated stones. It was an incredible and delicious way to wrap up the adventure.
I couldn't be happier with the experience we had with Huascaran Adventure Travel. If you're looking to embark on the breathtaking Huayhuash trek, I highly recommend choosing them. With Paulino at the helm and an experienced guide like Robert leading the way, you'll be in...
Read moreI did the short 5-day Huayhuash trek this past May, and honestly, everything was absolutely perfect—except for my own poor fitness (which I say with a bit of embarrassment!).
At 50, I wanted to do a beautiful trek before it felt too late, so after speaking with Paulino, I booked the shorter 5-day version. He was incredibly kind, thoughtful, and attentive to every detail—not just with me, but with everyone in the group. He’s truly someone who cares.
The whole team, including our guide, was professional, experienced, and dedicated. Every part of the trek was well organized and ran smoothly. The equipment they provided was high quality—I stayed warm through the cold nights, and I felt completely safe and cared for throughout the journey.
As someone in my 50s with a young heart but not-so-young stamina, it was hard to keep up with the 20- and 30-somethings in my group. I had been to high altitudes before and thought I’d be fine, but the first two days were tough—I barely slept due to altitude sickness, and I honestly felt awful.
Even so, thanks to our amazing guide Edwin and the support of the whole team, I made it through. They were always checking on me, helping, encouraging, and giving me the space and care I needed. In the end, I finished the trek—exhausted but full of joy. The views were breathtaking, but it was the kindness I received that moved me most.
If someone like me, not in perfect condition, can finish this trek and still call it one of the most beautiful experiences of my life, that says everything about Huascarán Adventure travel agency.
I truly can’t recommend them enough. If you’re dreaming of an unforgettable trek—talk to Paulino....
Read moreJust did a 10-day Cordillera Huayhuash trek with Huascaran. Paulino was very attentive and answered whatever questions I had in a very timely manner via their WhatsApp number. I paid $650 for the hike which included 3 nights in their hostel beforehand. Paulino was nice enough to pick me up from the bus station when I arrived in Huaraz from Lima around 7pm. He also gave me recommendations for where I could eat in town and helped me plan a couple acclimatization hikes I could do before heading out on the 10-day excursion. Our guide for the trip was a guy named Edwin Lazaro who was very professional and did everything he could to make sure all the guests in our group were both safe and comfortable. The chef’s name was Hilario and cooked great food, though sometimes the portions weren’t as big as I would have liked after a massive day of hiking. I suppose that’s to be expected when hiking through a very remote region where absolutely everything needs to be carried on the back of a person or beast of burden. On the night we got back from the hike, Paulino and his wife Pilli invited the group back to the hostel and treated us all to a home cooked meal of pork, chicken, potatoes and lima beans, all of which were preceded by a delicious bowl of soup and pisco sours - all on the house. Overall, I’d say that I had a pleasant experience with Huascaran and would recommend them to be the agency to help organize your...
