LOCATION-The best thing about Hotel Nicanor is its location. It’s a stone’s throw away from a couple of supermarkets (only been to Lucky Plaza and the wait by the cashier was agonizing; it may be a different story at Robinsons), a drugstore, Jollibee and McDonalds. It’s walking distance to the famous Rizal Boulevard, where you can find several restaurants, bars and cafes of different classes. Close by is Siliman University as well as the port. You can get around in a tricycle for 8 pesos per person to anywhere in the city, except the airport. That costs 150 pesos if you hire the whole trike. ||||FACILITIES-The wifi was surprisingly strong; only dropped out once late at night when we stayed. There was construction going on on the side as well as inside the building but thankfully you couldn’t hear it in the rooms. Bring along a reusable water container as they have water dispensers on each floor—such an awesome idea, I wonder why not many hotels do this.||||ROOM-We were lucky to have a room with a window (not so much a view; the window was small and above eye level but you could see the sky if it was day or night. Even with the window, the room was a bit dark. Though the room design was a bit dated, it was all neat and tidy. The cable tv channels all worked and had clear reception. The aircon remote was busted, and as the aircon was located above the window, I had to stand on the chair to open/close as well as regulate the air temp. There are small packaged soaps, but no soap dish||by the sink. The towels were small and a bit worn, though still white. ||||SERVICE-Curiously, you could ask them to make up the room, but they only do this starting 1pm, and you didn’t know when they’d be cleaning your room exactly so no afternoon naps if you want your room spick and span again.||||They also charge 20 pesos per extra towel you request, but those ones are bigger and thicker.||||Barely saw any hotel staff around except for the front desk ladies. Though they replied to my questions, they were a bit “meh” in their vibe. ||||If you’re looking for a base location and plan to be out all day (and most of the night), this is a great option. If you think you’ll want to spend some time lounging in a nice room, there might be better...
Read moreThis place is good enough for sleeping. Though their blanket is thin, AC is not that cold though, so I guess the thin blanket is enough. The room I stayed at has 1 double bed, good for person. The best part of the room is the bathroom, it’s big! I didn’t expect it since the room is a little narrow, the bathroom size is big for its room type. Cold and hot shower is working. Standard check out is 12 pm, but I asked if I could extend it till 3 pm, which they allowed me. 100/hour extra. My room cost 1299 and I checked in on a Friday. They have toiletries. Got a free mineral water and 1 coffee sachet. I was greeted by a mosquito upon entering the room 😅. The hotel is a walking distance from the Rizal Boulevard and from some fast foods in the area. Also near to the port going to Siquijor. Less than 5 minute tricycle ride from the port. The hotel was doing renovations on the 4th and 5th floor when I stayed, that was May 2024. But the construction is only during the day. The hotel itself is a little bit old though, you can feel it from their room and reception. As for value for money? Good enough, considering the location, but for the room?...
Read moreHonestly, it wasn’t exactly poor, I wish I could give it a bit more like another half star. It definitely is not a three star hotel. But for $25 Canadian a night how can you go wrong? My hot water didn’t work, but my buddies in the next room over did. ||||I got one small hand towel to dry with. But it was enough. We got complementary water so that was nice. And we got the Wi-Fi, which is also nice. I wasn’t spending much time at the hotel anyway. But if you just need a place to stay to get your bearings. This is not a bad option . You can’t go wrong price wise.||||I noticed a guy taking a prostitute in late at night so maybe that’s what this place is for. I don’t know. When I got up early in the morning to go out to the plaza there are a bunch of people sleeping in the lobby. I mean it’s cool. You’re in the Philippines . Things are different here. I didn’t wake anybody up in the security. Let me...
