Mad Monkey Hostel, Siargao Island
I am thankful for the good accommodation with the good people there and I wanted to mention Ms. Pam and Ms. Generose because they treat us well and they are very accommodating and I wanted to mention too Mr. Jomari the student who has On the Job Training at mad monkey's hostel and he's very nice and good.

Read moreStayed in Mad Monkey for about a week and our stay is nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I stepped in the lobby, I know that I will have the best stay. Their staffs are amazing and accommodating, Me and my best friend were greeted by a loud “welcome to Mad Monkey” that startled us HAHAHAHA which so funny because we didn’t expect that they will welcome us like that. Their staffs also became our friends since day one and they gave us an excellent service, so kudos!!
The vibes in Mad Monkey were fun and amazing and it has a positive atmosphere. The rooms were clean and smelled good, the bathrooms were also clean and private, and the food was also good. The location is also good because it’s near to Catangnan Bridge, Cloud 9 and many more, however it’s a bit far to GL proper but it’s still good since you can go there by tricycle or motorbike. They also have different activities every night that we did enjoy.
We joined a lot of their activities like the challenge night, pub and music quiz, filipino family dinner (the food that time was really good) it’s just so sad that we didn’t experience the acoustic night and the bingo night (because they don’t do it anymore) however, we still had a blast. We met a lot of people from different countries because of their activities, and we also drank and had fun with them. Shoutout to the coordinator every night, I think it was Kuya Jovan (I forgot his name, I’m not good at remembering names) he always asked us if we want to join, and he's so fun and accommodating so yeah, labyu and thank you Kuya! I will definitely remember your name next time when I come back!!! Thank you to Miss Generose as well for organizing our surfing activity for us, loveluts!
We also joined their Party boat that organized by Miss Pam and Miss Generose, and it was superb. We didn’t only do island hopping and swimming, but we also did hiking, dancing, drinking, shouting and many more and it was an unforgettable experience. Thank you to Miss Pam and Miss Generose for not only being so accommodating but also for being a passionate storyteller, and for having fun and dancing with us. You guys made sure that everyone is having a good time so yeah, we will definitely go to do another party boat again!!
We will definitely go to stay at Mad Monkey again when we come back to Siargao. P.S: We love the free...
Read moreDo not recommend !!! Very unaccommodating.
You must pay upon arrival so to secure our spots, we paid for a full 9 days in advance, assured that if we change our schedule, we would be able to cancel without penalty (if we notify them X amount of days in advance). When the time came, they declined and said we could leave whenever but they are keeping the money. The front desk reception pick and choose when they allow cash or card. The ATM at the hostel is unreliable and not always full. When needing to pay card, I was declined, yet another person in my group was granted card use. When confronted with the front desk, she informed me it’s a personal decision for the worker to either accept cash or card. Make it make sense… If you have the Mad Monkey app, you qualify for discounts. Some people in our group had these coupon codes, and again, the front desk staff "got to decide" if they wanted to use them or not. My friends were denied this discount without reason. Do not get them to do your laundry. Go elsewhere and do it yourself. Our stuff was return with machine stains and multiple articles missing. We chatted with other travellers we overheard had damaged and missing clothing as well and all had the same experience. If you don’t care about your belongings, giver! If you do, wash elsewhere. Worst part was the Sohoton Tour. Do NOT do purchase through Mad Monkey. We were a group of 12, assured that the price includes absolutely everything… it did not. Anything they could add, they did. We did multiple PRIVATE tours in El Nido (which is known to be more expensive) that costs significantly less than this tour. The tour itself was incredible and you should do that 100%, just book outside of the hostel.
I should mention that the rest of the Mad Monkey staff were incredible, security and bartender.. we only ever had issues with reception/front of house.
Aside from that, rooms are noisy but that’s expected for a hostel. Further from the main area but close to cloud 9!
It’s a bit suspicious that Mad Monkey is the only hostel I was unable to leave a review for in Hostel World though. Why do they not allow reviews there??? Overall, bad experience. If you have another...
