A Nightmare Stay
Staying at The Henry Hotel Manila was one of the worst decisions we’ve ever made. This place is a disaster on every level, and I wouldn’t wish a night here on my worst enemy.
First of all, forget about sleep. The rooms are unbearably noisy—constant traffic from ancient, rattling buses shakes the air all night long. Planes flying overhead somehow seem quiet compared to the chaos outside. And if that wasn’t enough, the nearby church decided to blast its morning preaching at an ungodly hour, waking us up like an alarm clock from hell.
The room itself was disgusting. Dust covered the lamps so thickly you could write your name on them, and the toilet wouldn’t stop leaking water, adding to the cacophony of noise. The air conditioner barely worked and couldn’t switch modes properly, leaving the room either sweltering or freezing. To top it all off, when the power went out, a bright, unrelenting light in the wardrobe made sleeping impossible. It’s like this hotel is actively trying to keep you awake.
Don’t expect any amenities to make up for the misery. The mini-bar? Laughable—just a few sugary drinks and nothing else. Breakfast? A joke. You get to pick one sad, tasteless dish, and their so-called “fresh juice” is blatantly poured from a carton.
The location only adds to the nightmare. It’s in a dodgy, unsafe area that feels downright dangerous to walk through. On top of that, it’s miles away from anything worth seeing, so you’re stuck wasting time and money on transport.
And the service? Abysmal. When I begged for a quieter room or any solution to improve our stay, the staff flatly refused. It felt like they couldn’t care less about their guests’ experience.
This hotel isn’t just bad—it’s a trap. If you value your sanity, sleep, or even basic hygiene, stay as far away from The Henry Hotel...

My friend and I needed a place to stay for the night as we had a flight early in the morning. I didn't want to be grandiose as it was just one night but I didn't want to be in a cheap low quality hotel either so TripAdvisor luckily suggested this 4-star hotel for ~$80.
It was a hidden hotel and it can be easily missed. You either have to be looking at google maps to see if you were close or keep an eye out for the sign 'Henry Hotel Manila'. The number on FB Harrison street is 2680. Actually the first Henry Hotel is in Cebu and is also a boutique hotel.
The taxi took us into what seemed like a secret compound in the middle of busy and overwhelming manila. Upon entering the gates, I was amazed by the cleanliness, beauty, and serenity of the place. The building plan, architecture, and plants were on point.
As a boutique hotel, it made me feel like I was in an intimate house, not a gigantic hotel that is seen throughout Manila. I felt like I was in a traditional Spanish estate. The doors were made of heavy metal and the tiles of marble. The wood was actual wood and not some fake material. The room did not disappoint. It was nice, clean, fresh, and fancy. Well lighted and everything was functional. Bathroom was the same and hot water was fully functional. I really can't say enough about the luxury I felt while I was here.
The staff, in traditional Filipino fashion, were very nice and hospitable. Always wanting to please and satisfy. They had an interesting, neat, impeccable, and classy uniform set.
Very high and strong recommendation for this...
Read moreOur stay at The Henry Hotel Manila was a memorable experience. The hotel’s vintage aesthetic makes it feel like an ancestral home, giving it a warm and nostalgic charm that sets it apart from modern hotels.
One of the highlights of our stay was the complimentary breakfast, which featured a great selection of classic Filipino dishes. I particularly enjoyed the garlic fried rice paired with daing na bangus, corned beef, tocino, and tapa, served with a choice of sunny-side-up or scrambled eggs, along with coffee or juice. It was a satisfying and authentic way to start the day.
However, in terms of service, I would rate it 3 stars. While the staff was polite and accommodating, there were some areas that could be improved. The hotel offers parking space for guests, which is convenient, but every time we left and returned, the security guard at the gate required us to provide our room number. This became repetitive and slightly inconvenient. A car pass system for guests with vehicles would be a more efficient solution.
The biggest downside of our stay was the presence of mosquitoes in the room, though the hotel did provide insecticide to help with the issue. Additionally, there was an unidentified roaring noise at night, possibly coming from water pipes, which affected the quality of sleep.
Overall, The Henry Hotel Manila has a unique and charming ambiance, offering a nostalgic stay with great breakfast options. However, improvements in service efficiency, pest control, and noise management would enhance the overall...
