GOT SCABIES FROM THIS HOSTEL PLEASE READ!!!!
We stayed at Hostellicious in Faro and unfortunately had one of the worst travel experiences of our lives — we left with scabies.
We arrived late at night, exhausted from traveling, and went straight to bed. The next morning, we noticed tiny black specks all over the sheets. At the time, we weren’t sure what they were — maybe lint, dirt, or sand. We voiced our concerns to the front desk, that did change our sheets but we didn’t think too much of it and continued our stay. Fast-forward a few days and both of us began to experience intense itching, followed by a rash and bumps, especially on our hands, wrists, and torso.
After a doctor’s visit and treatment, we were diagnosed with scabies. The black specks we saw? Most likely fecal matter from the mites. Truly revolting.
We are clean, healthy travelers who’ve never had issues like this before. The only common exposure was this hostel and the clearly unwashed bedding.
We now have to deal with: • Medical creams and treatment • Weeks of uncomfortable symptoms • Deep-cleaning and laundering everything we own • The possibility of having passed it on to others unknowingly
This isn’t just about an uncomfortable stay — this is a serious health and hygiene issue. Any hostel that fails to maintain clean bedding and a safe sleeping environment should not be in operation.
To management: We urge you to immediately address your linen handling procedures and investigate any potential infestations. Clean sheets aren’t optional — they are basic, minimum standards.
To fellow travelers: Until this place publicly acknowledges and resolves this issue, stay away — or risk taking home more than...
Read moreI had a horrible night there. Bathrooms are dirty and mixed. Temperature of water changes by itself from super cold to bowling hot for no reason. Kitchen was small and dirty. Living room was nice. There was an air conditioner in our room, and 2 canadian women were aggressively fighting with me to keep the room temperature as low as it possible. The receptionist supported them. They called me problematic because I wanted a little higher temperature. They both said that they spent 4 days in this room sweating all nights. With 18 degrees temperature, right? I told them that it's because they close their bed curtains. And actually overweight people sweat much more just because of the fat they have. I didn't say that, of course, because I was trying to be polite. But no one was trying to be polite with me. The receptionist told me to cover my head with a blanket to avoid cold air, and that it's 2 people against one person, so I have to suffer. As a result I didn't sleep that night and now have a worse cold and my ears hurt. I hope everyone is happy now. I came down to reception to ask them to make a temperature higher, and the guy made it up to 24 degrees. And then he was arguing with me that higher is not recommended by insurance. But hostel itself sends messages that the highest temperature can be 27. After he found that email, he lied to me that he made it up to 26. It was 25. I have never had in my life a situation like this. To argue with the roommates and hostel over the temperature in the room. It was my worst experience in my life from all hostel experiences I ever had. Rude staff,...
Read moreSmall dingy dorms crammed with bunk beds. Nowhere to sit, nowhere to put your bags whilst you unpack. It’s either your bed or on the floor. The staff are very unwelcoming (although they seemed to have a laugh with guests of a certain skin colour). There are families and older people staying here, not ideal for a hostel. There is a service for the homeless / drug addicts right next door to the hostel which means there’s always loud and obnoxious people outside who aren’t hostel guests. The beds in the dorms are uncomfortable. Although they mention all bedrooms have AC - this is far from the truth. Yeah they have AC but only after you’ve paid they tell you it’s controlled by the hotel staff and doesn’t go below 23 degrees. It was extremely hot and uncomfortable during my stay. I already went downstairs to ask the staff to turn the AC on which didn’t do much. I sent a message on WhatsApp asking them to please sort out the temp in the room again - they put the fan setting to high for about 15 minutes. I walked out at 2am and managed to get a booking at tilia hostel which is far better. Bigger rooms, AC controlled by guests, plenty of desks/tables/chairs/sofas to put your baggage on so you’re not breaking your back.
Save yourself a sleepless night by not booking hostellicious for your stay. This hostel has been reported to Hostelworld for false advertising.
There is absolutely no reason you would want to control the AC to a room you’re not staying in yourself unless you were a cheap control freak trying to save on...
