we visited a Nepali restaurant with high hopes of enjoying a satisfying and authentic meal. As fans of Nepali cuisine, we were excited to try a range of items and ordered the Thali set, Bhindi Masala, Chowmein, and Chatpate. While a couple of the dishes met our expectations, unfortunately, the overall experience left much to be desired—especially with the Thali set and Bhindi Masala.
Let’s start with the positive side. The Chowmein was quite decent. It had the right balance of spices, was served warm, and the vegetables were well-cooked. The texture was just right—not too oily or dry, which we appreciated. The Chatpate, too, was fairly enjoyable. It had a tangy kick, the crunch from the puffed rice was nice, and overall, it had that nostalgic street-style flavor we were looking for. If the rest of the meal had been on the same level, this would have been a very different review.
But unfortunately, everything else fell flat after that point.
The Thali set was the biggest disappointment. We were genuinely looking forward to it, expecting a vibrant, hearty meal with a variety of curries and sides that reflect the richness of Nepali cuisine. However, what was served was shockingly underwhelming. The curry included in the Thali was completely off. It was hard to even identify what it was supposed to be. The flavor was bland, the texture was unappetizing, and it had an unpleasant aftertaste that lingered long after the meal. It tasted as though it had been reheated multiple times or was made with stale ingredients. Instead of the comforting dal or flavorful vegetable curries we were hoping for, we got something that felt more like an experiment gone wrong. It lacked any depth, spice balance, or aroma, which are all hallmarks of a good Nepali curry.
Now moving on to the Bhindi Masala—this was, hands down, one of the worst versions we’ve ever had. Okra is a tricky vegetable, and when cooked properly, it can be absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. The Bhindi was slimy, undercooked in some parts, and completely overcooked in others. The masala was just… confused. It didn’t taste like a traditional Nepali preparation, nor did it resemble any familiar Indian variant. There was no harmony in the spices. It felt as if random ingredients were thrown together without thought or care. The dish was swimming in oil, and yet somehow, it still tasted dry and dull. We couldn’t even finish half of it. In summary, while the Chowmein and Chatpate were passable, the Thali set and Bhindi Masala left a lasting negative impression. If a restaurant claims to serve authentic Nepali food, there should be some consistency and heart in the dishes, especially staples like a Thali or a vegetable curry. Unfortunately, this visit was a complete letdown, and we would think twice before returning or recommending it to...
Read moreWe recently visited this Nepali/Indian chimney restaurant and i am totally disappointed . We ordered Veg Spring Rolls, Honey Chilli Cauliflower, and a curry The Veg Spring Rolls were fine — crispy and hot, but nothing exceptional in terms of flavor. The Honey Chilli Cauliflower looked great and had a decent texture, but again, the taste didn’t stand out. It was okay, but lacked the bold, tangy-sweet flavor we were hoping for. The biggest letdown, unfortunately, was the curry. It was very watery, more like a soup than a curry, and didn’t have the depth of flavor you’d expect from either Nepali or Indian cuisine. It felt bland and under-seasoned lacking the richness and spice that usually define these dishes. Honestly, we could have made something similar at home, and we came expecting better especially when dining out and paying restaurant prices That said the service was good, even though the restaurant was quite busy., which we really appreciated The atmosphere was decent too, but the food needs improvement We really hope the kitchen pays more attention to the quality and authenticity of the flavors especially in the curries, which should be the heart...
