Is it possible to fall in love with a hotel? I didn't think so, but here I am, utterly in love with this charming place. Imagine being woken up by gentle piano sounds. You open the door of your balcony to a lush, green surrounding in a side street to the main road. Your room is unique and feels like a home. A far cry from the minimalist, clinical Hotel chains. The whole place smells amazing and is decorated in the most eclectic, charming way - combining the old substance of the Portuguese art nouveau house with an over boarding love for detail and decoration. Everyone we met was beyond friendly - no matter if it was the cleaning staff, a handyman or the concierges. It's situated right off one of the main areas - if you want you can walk everywhere. But tram and metro are right outside! So are busses and of course ubers. The breakfast leaves nothing to desire - good luck trying everything they offer! The room comes with complementary coffee and tea and it's extremely clean and cozy. All around the house are sitting areas to hang out and just relax. The only downside I found - the walls are very thin and as the house is old, you will hear the sounds of your neighbours and creaking floors. It didn't bother me at all. I stayed on the 3rd floor - no elevator. 12/10 - would stay...
Read moreSome of these reviews are a bit much. This place is worth the stay even if based on the decor, staff, breakfast and location. Some reviews mentioned noise but my wife and I spent two nights there and we heard nothing from outside. The only negative that I could mention was the room was indeed small. The shower left little room to maneuver and sitting on the toilet would be a bit of a tight squeeze for a bigger person.
As an avid reader, I spent a long time perusing the many collectible books placed strategically everywhere. The morning breakfast above and beyond and the staff seemed almost too good! So helpful and always in a good spirits. There is a guy playing the piano during breakfast also.
So although there may be some letdowns for some, the beauty of the place and the impeccable work that went into it override them. I think of it as an art gallery where one could spend a few nights rather than a hotel with lovely art.
There are two barrels of wine that are at your disposal any...
Read moreLoud nightclub nearby and frequent power outages!
Without these issues mentioned, the place is actually quite lovely and the staff is attentive but hey don’t always answer the phone right away. One star is a little harsh but I only wish I knew I’d have to listen to thumping club music until 3 am before I booked the room. I already knew my room was on the fourth floor with no elevator. I knew the shower and bathroom was very small. I can handle that. Bed was comfortable, Room was clean and the staff is friendly and accommodating but none of that matters when you can’t fall asleep because of the nightclub next door and then you wake up sweating because the power had been out. If you need to get a hold of the staff at night, be prepared to call a few times before they answer or you can message them but you may have to wait 30 minutes to an hour to get someone to...
