Just two streets down from the famous high-end shopping mecca of Liberty Avenue in Lisbon - think Prada and company - is the Hotel Dublin. You will struggle to find more reasonable accommodation so close to all the downtown sights - the Tejo riverfront is a comfortable and spectacle-filled 30 minute walk down the road. The rooms are a mix of modern and classic, with beautiful pressed-ceilings that take you back to an era of exploration and wonder. Perch yourself at the bay-window and you could spend hours just people-watching as Lisbon writhes 24/7 below. As a result of it's close proximity to a college and hospital, taxi's are permanently stationed right outside the hotel door, despite your reservations, taxis ARE the cheapest and easiest way to get to the airport. The breakfast is a standard continental breakfast, well-presented and adequate. There is no other food on offer from the hotel beyond the breakfast, however step into the street outside and every second shop is a trendy restaurant or pastelaria. For the budget traveler, stick to the "prato do dias" (plates of the day) - Café Pastelaria Castrense is highly recommended - or buy food from the Mini Preco just around the corner from the hotel (your hotel room is equipped with a large fridge and freezer). Hotel staff are friendly and about half can speak English. The TV has about 12 Portuguese channels and a laundry service is on offer (no dry-cleaning). Extra bags can be stored in a store room for the duration of your stay. For the budget traveler, purchase items like umbrellas, locks and extra-luggage from the Chinese Wholesaler a few shops down from the...
Read moreI said at the Residencial Dublin, from April 28 to May 3, and I have found it very charming and nice. My room was clean and tidy a bit on the smaller side but on vacation you only need it to sleep and shower. The staff were very courteous and nice to me. The breakfast was good, with prompt service by the staff. The rate I paid was fair for a hotel within walking distance of Marques de Pombal Square(you can get the metro here and connect to all of Lisbon and the airport bus lets you off here too). From hear you can walk all over downtown Lisbon, and to Rio Tejo, Castelo de Sao Jorge, you are 2 blocks to the Avenida de Liberdade, Rooms come equipped with a small fridge, with a few supermarkets close by, I was able to keep a supply of cold bottled water on hand along with a few midnight snacks on hand. Within feet of the front door are several restaurants with great food and great prices. ||||I have only 2 minor complaints a) I think the front of the building/facade could use some repairs and updates and b) I thought my ensuite bathroom was a bit tight. The space between the sink and toilet was a almost tight squeeze.||||For a short stay of a week or less this hotel is a great deal. I would recommend it to my friends who are not looking for fancy...
Read moreWe used this for an overnight stop having flown late into Lisbon and wanting a budget place, and this was just the job. Given the price, unremarkable but perfectly good for a night's sleep. And very usefully, if you turn right out of the front door and go 100 yards there is an excellent late night bar-restaurant (food until nearly midnight, drinks til 1am); go another 100 yards and you'll find a good terrace cafe for breakfast (we didn't have the hotel breakfast as we were meeting a friend).||And if you just happen to be renting motorcycles from IMT Bike (as we were), it's a five minute walk...
