Beautiful place on par with many other places in Lisbon. Food is nothing special, average soggy sad bun without special sauces or veggies, meat was ok, average craft beer (not WOW but not bad). Slightly expensive for what they offer. 15 euro for a small patty with a slice of low quality bacon divided by 2 and around 200/250gr of OK meat (I ordered the double smash burger). And that's it, the side dish basket with potato wedges I will not comment. Served on a slate with a couple of spoons of mayo mixed with lemon juice. Food is edible but I don't understand the hyperbolic reviews... or maybe I do? ;) As a former chef myself I have one suggestion: at least toast the buns, it's not time consuming for you (because you can do it while you are cooking your patties) but will improve the experience for your customers 100% at no cost. Service is sub par If you're with friends and you don't care too much about the quality of food/price poor ratio but only about to drink a beer in good company then you can go. you will enjoy anyway
Read moreIn a street behind the extravagant retail of Avenida da Liberdade is this modern beer hall. So modern that they have a self serve system that dispenses a multitude of beers in 10cl measures. If you arrived with techno-fear or, like me, a ‘cannot be bothered with that’ attitude, there is still the table service choice from the ever-changing blackboard. Staff are ultra friendly, efficient and speak English. So, with a mix of Canil’s own brews (the brewery is 15km away), some well known international brands and the 20 self service Portuguese taps, there’s plenty of choice. Oh, there’s fridges of bottles and cans too. A good selection of ballast, in the form of grills, burgers and snacks will help soak up the alcohol. Outside pavement seating was dominated by smokers, as is the way. Inside there’s a long central table surrounded by tall stools, a number of other tall tables for small groups and some ‘snug’ areas with lower seating and tables. It’s a well thought out space. Table service brews are available in 20cl, 35cl and 47cl measures. I sampled a milkshake cherry IPA, an imperial IPA and an imperial Russian stout, all of which hit the spot. I’d suggest the Canil beers over the ‘World Beers’, which are not the reason I came to Lisbon. Anyway, highly...
Read moreWe went here twice, once just for drinks on a Monday and it was fairly quiet and then again on Friday to eat when it was much busier. Both nights they were playing a selection of rock music which we enjoyed. On the Friday it was happy hour but this only includes limited beers (not wine sadly) and some appetizers. We started with the onion rings, rustic fries, corn ribs and sausage - all €3 per portion which we shared, all were very good. We then shared a portion of fish and chips which was huge and we struggled to finish it. The wine, both red and white were excellent as was my husband’s (very cheap €0.9) beers. We finished with two generous ports €4 each. Overall we liked this place and would recommend it. They do take cards as well as cash but if paying by card the machine offers you a chance to put your own tip in which is also mentioned by the waitress although there is...
