We are so glad that we spent our 2 nights in Porto at PimmsHomeRibeira. It’s in an incredible location just off the waterfront and is exceptionally good value for money. Paolo, the manager, greeted us warmly even though we arrived later than expected. The room was stylish and immaculate, just like in their photos, and the bed was comfortable. We had good free wifi throughout the building and there was a locked cupboard to store our bags for the day after we had checked out of our room. ||||The location was an easy 10-minute walk down the hill from Sao Bento Metro station. A top tip from another traveller is that the statue of Infante Dom Henrique points at the hotel, which is immediately to the right of the blue-tiled church. The entrance to the hotel is up the stairs through the cafe. The road was busier than we expected, but the view straight ahead from our room was of the Sao Francisco church, and if you leaned out the window, you could see the historic trams and the Douro River. ||||The floor below us had a room with tables and chairs, where we had to our own breakfasts. You get a 10% discount in the Pimms restaurants and cafes and Lao (not sure of the spelling!) kindly brought us up delicious coffees with a genuine smile. If you want something akin to a UK flat white, order an Americano with milk. Americans, take note, this is not a thin watered-down coffee, like you might be used to. I don’t know what that would be called. All I know is that the coffee here was so good, that we forgot to ask for milk the second morning, but the coffee was so rich and creamy, I’d finished half of it before I even realised. ||||If we come back to Porto, we’d absolutely stay at the PimmsHomeRibeira again and we’ve already recommended...
Read moreWhen I arrived at the hotel there was no one immediately so I had to call them to get my key. It would have been desirable to know this in advance. The woman who came with the key was very helpful and friendly. The room was nicely decorated but there were some things that were not so good. When it was hot outside the room became very hot and when it was cold outside the room became very cold. There was a heating appliance but I could not make it work properly. It heated for a minute and then turned off. There are some problems with moisture in the room, as some black spots had started to appear in the ceiling. This indicates that mold or fungus is emerging. For some reason, my room was not cleaned after the first night. I had been told by the woman who usually did clean had time off and therefore another would come, but that person never came to my room. Another thing that would have been nice to have in the room was a kettle, but unfortunately it was not there. The location is really good, there are many cozy cafes and restaurants a few minutes walk away. If you have a tight budget and comfort does not matter so much, then this place may well be an...
Read moreI actually booked here last minute as the hostel I had booked was shut when I arrived. This place was close to the hostel so booked out of convenience. Well, I'm really glad that I did because this was a wonderful place to stay.||||The room was a good size, with decent closet space, and a very comfortable bed. It was clean and the water bottles they provide are a nice touch. ||||The location is fantastic, being right by the river, and easy to find your way around the rest of the city. They also have a little cafe downstairs which I recommend, the burger is delicious. There is a main road but for me the noise wasn't an issue and the curtains kept light out so had six great nights' sleep.||||My favourite thing about this place is how friendly the staff are. Every time I went in and out, they were so friendly, asking about my day and making me feel so welcome.||||As a single woman travelling, I felt really safe here, including getting back late at night, so recommend for other solo travellers too.||||There isn't a lift , so may not be the best place for people with mobility issues, but personally for me was...
