I recently stayed at the 8-bed female dorm for 3 nights and had a nice, pleasant stay. While some areas still need improvement, I'm happy I stayed here for the convenience and privacy.||Pros:|- Excellent location. I chose this because of its proximity to the Sao Bento station (3-5|min walk). It's also within walking distance from everything you need - restaurants and cafes, shops, tourism offices, tourist spots, etc.||- Quiet, mature (not boring) atmosphere. No rowdy party backpackers (thank God!). Based on my observation, this hostel attracts a different kind of group: those who want value for money of a hostel and at the same time, quiet privacy. ||During my stay, I noticed 3 different groups here: young solo travelers like me who just want peace and quiet after walking the whole day; older women (50s-60s) doing the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and who value the rest they can get before hitting the trail again; couples who keep to their own. This is not to say that people didn't talk to one another. Of course, there were hellos and little chats at the breakfast table or in the room, but that's it. People didn't really sit on the couch or gathered at the communal area. ||It seems that there was an unspoken rule of respecting people's space and quiet time which was nice. At some point in your travels, you really just want to get some rest and sleep. So if a communal hostel atmosphere is a big factor for you, maybe this isn't the place for you.||- The facilities were good. Bathrooms were clean. Kitchen was well-equipped. Wifi was good in the room except for my last night when it wasn't functioning. By the next morning, it was working again. Beds were comfortable. ||- The helpful staff, particularly the girl who's in the afternoon/night shift. She was wonderful - friendly, smart, alert and had a way of connecting with the guests.||Cons:|- The breakfast can still be improved. Bread, butter, jam and cornflakes (plain and chocolate) are good, but if you're staying multiple nights, it can get old. some eggs and fruits would be nice. For drinks, there were only instant coffee, cereal drink (chicory), chocolate drink, and juice. I found it odd that they didn't offer real coffee. But on my last breakfast, I was surprised to see a coffee press. Maybe it was a new addition...||- On my first night, it was hard to sleep because of the noise coming from the street below. There was a guy singing in one of the restaurants. Thankfully, it was already quiet the next nights. Maybe this is something for light sleepers to consider if you're planning to stay at the female dorm.||- The receptionist in the morning shift came off as cold sometimes. It seemed that she was only interested in doing her job, very direct and maybe slightly offensive for some. She's very good at her job but maybe she can try to smile more and be warmer. :)||- Since there were wooden floors, it could get noisy when people walk, especially at night. ||Overall, I'm satisfied with my stay and would recommend this to friends who don't like...
Read moreWe booked this hostel last minute and were very happy with our choice! Location was a big factor in choosing this hostel, as it is right in the heart of Porto, close to the Metro and main train station Sao Bento. However, there was so much more to the hostel than just location...||||We were greeted by very friendly staff, the check-in process was quick and easy and we were shown up to our room straight away. We had a fantastic, spacious room with a great view out across the Rua des Flores. The bathroom and shower facilities were superb and everything was immaculately clean.||||Something I really liked about this hostel was the late checkout time. ||The hostel were also happy to arrange daytrips etc if required and made it clear they would go out of their way to help however they could.||||Downstairs in the hostel is plenty of room for storing food and cooking facilities. Breakfast is also available for a reasonable price of 3 Euros.||||Overall, we were very impressed with our stay and would definitely...
