We went to Floresta cafe for breakfast this morning.
Great ambience and atmosphere. Great service. We ordered orange juice, salty waffles and veggie toast Orange juice was great. Veggie toast wasn’t. Mushrooms tasted and smelt old. The garbanzo beans and tofu pieces felt out of place (for lack of better word) and somehow the overall item looked different and didnt taste good. Daughter wasn’t thrilled with the Salty waffle either. I walked away a bit surprised given over thousand 5/5 reviews. A bit of a head scratcher.
I don't see a way to respond to the restaurant's response. So editing the original post.
Thanks for responding to the review. I wanted to clarify and also acknowledge the request for feedback.
Yes, I do remember uttering 'good' when i was asked. I viewed that as a polite pleasantry. And frankly not much the sweet waitresses could do (other than addressing the stale mushrooms issue), because it was the fundamental recipe that got me.
Based on your response, I realize you are really seeking improvement feedback and that's fair.
Acknowledging there are others who seemed to have enjoyed it just the way it is, here is my personal feedback for what its worth. The Veggie toast was hard to enjoy. I didn't realize pieces of small square of tofu and chickpeas were just tossed on top of toasted bread\avocado. That aside, I felt the taste was bland for both of them - and the bread and avocado were just alright. I would suggest playing with a slab of grilled tofu making it delicious and practical to eat. Perhaps garbanzos in the form of patty with spice and seasoning would be fantastic.
I think that it could be a really good dish if it was made with fresh ingredients and some recipe changes.
Thanks for offer to refund. I am no longer in Portugal. I do appreciate the gesture though.

Read moreHaving tried the original location (just a few minutes walk away) Do Norté cafe by Hungry Biker I decided to try this location for brunch the other day.
It is in a very convenient location - right on Rua das Flores. The venue is smaller than Do Norte and the vibe is more lively. More families and tourists than Do Norte. The same great food service and very welcoming to me dining solo.
The menu is different than DN and very interesting. I had the Salty Waffles which were light not soggy waffles topped with burrata (a ball with solid cheese on the outside and stracciatella and clotted cream on the inside). I broke the burrata over the waffle and mixed with the salad which came with it. The salad had balsamic and olive oil dressing grilled eggplant pesto and parsley and cherry tomatoes.
I am lactose intolerant but was fine with the burrata. Just took a lactaid pill just in case. Generous portion size. The burrata is very filling.
I also ordered an Americano which was excellent and pleasant surprise came in a North American sized portion ! I have found in Porto they usually come in smaller portions say half a cup (still bigger than espressos). My whole meal was delicious and only came to 13 euros before tip.
Can get busy but there is outside seating.
I will definitely be back to try the other items when I am next in Porto ! So glad there are two choices of Hungry Cafe locations I can choose from depending on my mood and what I feel...
Read moreIt was on my list before traveling to Porto, and it definitely lived up to expectations. I’m not usually someone who enjoys very sweet dishes, but I decided to try the French Toast since there wasn’t a classic eggs benedict option available. I was pleasantly surprised.
The experience was very positive: the service is attentive, friendly, and welcoming. The place itself is not huge, but the contemporary decoration is quite on point.
The coffee was quite good, and the portion of the French Toast was significant. Considering it costs around 10€, both the presentation and the quality were impressive. The dish included fresh mango, strawberries, and blueberries, and the toast itself was perfectly cooked — honestly, one of the best French toasts I've ever had.
If I had to mention a small downside, I would say they added a bit too much pistachio sauce for my taste. However, I imagine most people would appreciate the generous amount of sauce, especially given the overall value for the price you pay.
One thing to keep in mind: this place is very popular. They don't seem to accept reservations, and their other location had a long waiting line when we tried to go. Luckily, when we arrived at this one, we managed to get a table quickly. If you want to avoid waiting, it’s best to go early, ideally right after they open. But remember that Porto is quite...
