One of the few pluses of this hotel is its location — it’s conveniently situated within walking distance of downtown Porto’s sights and restaurants. Also, the price — while not cheap in absolute terms — was acceptable relative to other establishments of an equivalent level.||||As for the accommodations themselves — we were placed in one of the several underground rooms (we had a double room with enough beds to sleep 5 or 6), whose windows open at street level (with bars). Not very pleasant, especially if you keep the windows open at night for some air — which you pretty much need to do, as there is no air conditioning, and just one industrial strength fan for the two rooms... So you have all the noise coming in from outside at night, which is even too loud to be completely drowned out by the (extremely) noisy fan.||||The rooms themselves were clean, although the layout was far from ideal — almost the entire space was taken up by the beds; there was no place to put down and open even a single suitcase (we just put them on the floor, in the very little space we had available for this), and there was nearly no storage space to put clothes.||||There’s one small flat-screen TV hung from the wall in one of the rooms, although the angle at which it’s hung makes it visible from only one of the beds (and it can’t be angled down). In the second room is an ancient, small CRT TV, which we weren’t able to get to work.||||The bathroom was regrettably not as clean as the rest of the room, with paint peeling from the moldy ceiling and walls. Taking showers in that bathroom was definitely not a pleasant experience. The sink would fill up and drain VERY slowly, and the toilet had a weird flushing system whereby you had to turn a knob clockwise to start flushing — and it would only stop when you turned it back counterclockwise. Except that sometimes it wouldn’t completely stop and water would continue leaking down from the bowl...||||Perhaps the most disappointing of all was the breakfast. I had read some reviews of this place that raves about the breakfast. Huh? Did I miss something?! There was literally almost no selection of things to eat, other than some semi-stale bread and buns, with butter or a choice of a couple of different jams, slices of not-very-high-quality ham or yellow cheese, and a couple of sugary kids’ cereals. There was a jug of “orange juice” (although in this case, the “orange” refers to the color rather than the content of the juice...), a carafe of barely drinkable coffee, and one of milk. Breakfast is an important start to a full day of sightseeing, and I’m afraid the one we were served here was not a good way to start such a day...||||If I ever need to stay in Porto again, I would look for something a little more expensive, but with better amenities and a...
Read moreHi Riad Hostel! It was nice to stay with you, room was great, and the crew outstanding - but was it really? On the last day of my and my father’s stay I left a package for my friend on your reception desk, you kindly asked me to left additional 10EUR for breakfast via SMS evening earlier. In addition I left a nice note too and a small tip for keeping the gift for my friend - F.R. . When my friend came to you, receptionist told him that we cancelled our stay - indeed the stay made through booking was cancelled, but we had a phone call prior and we changed the date and were asked to cancel booking’s reservation - that’s it. I got the confirmation via SMS. I really hope you know it’s GDPR breach to show an outside person details of someone else’s reservation, even when it was cancelled - my friend was showed every detail of the reservation, including my father’s name and surname. It’s a pity really how you acted, you could have texted me that you won’t be able to give the present to my friend - at least I wouldn’t look so silly when I asked him to visist you cause I left something for him. Then he messaged me that you denied us even being there - when he knew we were xD It was really embarassing, thank you - lesson learned. Anyway, it would be nice if someone was to reach out to me and send me back tip I left on the letter and the pack. It was a polish chocolate cake - not much really. At least I hope u enjoyed it xD Other than that, I’d give you gladly 5 stars but honesty and privacy (at least being fair) is super important.
Best regards, Liliana and Rafał Podolak room 13 next...
Read moreMy sister and I stayed at Porto Riad for 3 nights for a short city break in Porto in March 2019.||The guest house is in a lovely old house with high ceilings with lots of original features, added to that is the tasteful Moroccan theme with Moorish furniture, lighting and fixtures throughout.||There is a good buffet breakfast included in the price with cereals, juices, ham, cheese, different rolls and fresh bread, butter, jam, marmalade and and freshly brewed coffee. ||The room was very homely and again decorated in Moorish style with a good sized private bathroom.||The staff are really nice and helpful and prepared an early breakfast for us on our day of departure because we had to be at the airport for 8.30 am. - a really friendly young man with perfect English helped us with breakfast and with check out.||There is a bus stop directly outside the front door of the hotel which connects you to the Metro system at 24 de Agosto or you can simply walk downhill to get the Metro at Bolhao. ||An absolute gem of a place of a place to stay and we paid only £114 for both of us for 3 nights with breakfast included - you can't complain at that price.||Porto is a lovely city too and definitely an up and coming city break destination. We had lovely warm sunshine for each of the 3 days...
