LOCATION It was our first time to Porto and this hotel popped up in Booking. com. The reviews were pretty good and we decided to give this hotel a shot. It's conveniently located on Rua de Santa Catarina, the main shopping street of Porto, except that it's a little bit further up on the hill, and away from the noise. ✔️Nearest airport: Porto International Airport (23 mins by car) ✔️Closest train station: Camphana (10 mins by car) ✔️Nearest attraction: Capela das Almas (6 mins walk away) ✔️To the river bank at Cais da Ribeira (25 mins walk) ✔️Nearest supermarket/mall: Via Caterina Shopping (7 mins walk)
HOTEL BUILDING A beautifully refurbished historic building with chic modern furnishings.
CHECK-IN: Our check-in personnel were all very helpful. They recommended us where we could sightsee and helped us to make restaurant bookings.
BEDROOM We got twin room 406 facing the main road and stayed here for 2 nights in early October. It was not noisy has the rooms are well-sound proofed. What was puzzling noisy was sounds coming from upstairs and both sides of the room as though someone's dragging their furniture. We promptly feedback to the hotel the next day and the problem was rectified.
✔️Flooring: Wooden-looking tiles with carpets. ✔️Decor: Beautifully modern Portuguese ✔️View: Street view with a small balcony. ✔️Twin Beds: Very Comfortable. There's ample space between the beds, which we very much appreciate. ✔️Sheets: clean white Cotton sheets ✔️Pillows: Soft & fluffy. 2 sets of pillows per pax ✔️Television : Flat screen. There were many channels but we were too busy to watch anything. ✔️Phone: A cute retro phone by the bedside. ✔️Plugs: Portuguese . For a relatively new hotel, the architect/designer clearly overlooked installing USB ports, which is a must these days for travelers. You need a travel adapter, which the front desk was kind enough to loan me one. ✔️Safe Deposit box: Yes, in the wardrobe. ✔️Fridge: Yes, below the table. ✔️Wardrobe: A very decent size cupboard, with drawers. You could be a long-term guest here! ✔️Electric Jug: There is Nespresso machine, which doesn't serve my needs. I don't really want to drink coffee-scented water. Good thing I brought my own electric jug. ✔️Beverage: Nespresso coffee. ✔️Housekeeping: Clean. ✔️Bathrobes: No ✔️Slippers: Yes! Plush and good quality.
BATHROOM ✔️Decor: Modern and chic. ✔️Phone: No ✔️Shower: There's a proper bathtub with option of rainforest shower. The water pressure is good and warm water is consistent. ✔️Hairdryer : Portable. Good strength. ✔️Toiletries: Rituals toiletries, with hair conditioner, body lotion, disposable toothbrush. ✔️Toilet paper: Decent quality with spares in bathroom ✔️Towels : Fluffy pristine white towels ✔️Wash-basin & Taps : Very modern.
BREAKFAST It's available for Euros 12.00 from 7am to 11am. We did not take their breakfast as Honest Greens was in the walking vicinity. Imho, Honest Greens offers extremely healthy options.
SWIMMING POOL None.
CONCLUSION This is our best hotel stay in Portugal. It checks all the boxes of a good hotel....in terms of furnishings and amenities. The only 2 caveats I have is this: It's located uphill. When you are tired after a long day of sightseeing, walking uphill can be quite daunting. The historic area of Porto is not exactly great for cars. If you are very fit and love walking, this is an excellent hotel. It doesn't have a drive-in for pick-up and drop-off. Our Bolt car dropped us off at the side of the hotel and asked us to walk to the hotel "round...
Read moreI’d first like to say: one of the days of my stay included the unprecedented power outage that swept through France, Spain and Portugal. I discovered then that water generally cuts off completely during outages in Portugal (and I assume the other countries affected this time) and the water systems most likely do not have backup generators like they do here in Canada. I had to clean up using the one bottle of complimentary water provided (thank goodness the power outage happened early in the stay). The staircase was pitch black and it would have been nice if there had been battery powered lanterns but I understand that would be a bit of an unreasonable ask given how rare an outage must be.
Anyways. Aside from that I generally enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The hotel lobby was quaint and pleasant smelling with infused water in the sitting area. The staff were polite and efficient.
The room was clean and nicely decorated. It included many amenities that most others do not include such as: tooth brushes, conditioner, a miniature sewing kit and slippers. That was very appreciated. In the four nights we stayed, they refilled the toiletries once. For some reason after cleaning one of the slippers disappeared so we had one set and one single slipper. My one complaint was the room cleanup. The slipper issue was minor but on one occasion one of my bath towels had become visibly dirtied. I had left it in the shower stall as hotels usually indicate to do, but after the cleaning I found the same visibly dirty towel on the rack. I left a written note asking for a new one and a new one was provided. I felt a bit apologetic because I didn’t know how to write the note in Portuguese and it might have inconvenienced the staff. It would be nice if the hotel room included a card that provides instructions on how to request fresh towels.
Excellent location. The hotel is a short walk from Mercado do Bolhão, a small shopping centre with a supermarket (a more budget option), and many cafes/restaurants. It isn’t too far from the shopping district and several museums and Bolts are very affordable...
Read moreMy recent short trip to Porto was quite a disappointing experience. The Pur Oporto Hotel claims to be a "boutique" accommodation but proved to be far from it.||||I arrived after 8 p.m. and was assigned a "micro" room on the 5th floor after waiting for 8 minutes for the receptionist to finish a personal phone call and at that time I was also charged a full rate with tax and city tax rather than at checkout which is standard in all hotels.||||The room itself was modern and well-decorated, with a comfortable bed and pillows. However, it was so small that you could nearly move. ||||The tiny rack could only be opened to one side and was really small, which barely allowed space to store any clothes, and to close the curtains one had to do it from the bed, as the gap between the bed and the window was too narrow.||||The desk, located directly in front of the entrance, was pushed against the wall to create enough space for being able to enter the room.||||The bathroom, although beautifully designed, was tiny and unfunctional. There was bearly enough space to use the toilet, the sink or the shower. There were no shelves for toiletries and the standing towel rack obstructed the way inside.||||Additionally, the balcony was closed due to construction works next door, which were directly adjacent to the room's wall.||||Last but not least, construction work noise with drills, and vibrations started as early as 7:55 a.m. While I had read about this issue back in August 2024, I was confident that they would be completed by now.||I understand that the city is undergoing renovations, but it’s unacceptable that the hotel failed to mention this in seven emails they sent me prior to arrival.||||Upon checkout, I addressed these issues to the manager and the hotel agreed to refund a part of the rate paid. Because of this positive approach, alongside with the overall modern design and cleanliness of the property, I gave it one more star.||||I would definitely not stay here again, not only because of noise, but also because the rooms of that size are totally unacceptable and should...
