If I could give zero stars, I would. Despite the actual building being beautiful, what was inside was beyond horrible. We intended to go for drinks before our dinner a few nights ago, and asked the lady at the restaurant where we should sit. She directed us to some brown tables in front of their café area. We sat down and waiting a good 20 minutes before anyone came up to us to even attempt to take our order. Mind you there was only 2 other tables there. One woman eventually came over to us, but asked if we needed a menu. I made the mistake of saying yes, but assumed she would be back 5 minutes later to take our order. Another 15 minutes later, someone came up to us to take our order. 20 minutes go by and still no drinks. We get up to ask where the drinks are, since at this point the two other tables that were there have already ordered, received their drinks, and their food. The waitress assured us they were coming. 5 minutes after that, she comes over to tell us they do not have a brand of vodka that we ordered. Shouldn’t they had known that 20 minutes prior when the order was put it? Regardless, the drinks came another 10 minutes after we were told they did not have the vodka. We kept debating whether to leave after having waited for so long and not received our drinks, but decided to give it a few more minutes each time, which in retrospect we shouldn’t have done. All in, we waiting an hour for 2 glasses of wine, a beer, and a vodka soda.
The next day, I went in to give the café another shot. I ordered a coffee with almond milk. The barista seemed as though she understood me. There were no other people on the line, and a few tables who were already being helped. We paid and sat down to wait for the coffee. 15 minutes go by and people who ordered after me received their coffees and pastries. I went up to the counter to check on it. They said it was coming. Mind you, you can see the entire kitchen area and it was quite evident they hadn’t even began to make mine. Then a tour group comes stampeding in and all of their attention moves to them. At this point I had to leave to get to an appointment. I told the woman that took our order we had to leave and to just forget it and expressed that I wanted a refund. The woman looked at me, rolled her eyes, and said “ok thanks.” Needless to say, we did not get a refund and I never got my coffee.
I wish I could blame both experiences on the language barrier, however it was clear it was just complete lack of respect and blatant rudeness. Not sure if it was a nod to their hatred of tourists or if they just had no regard for others. Regardless, would save your money and just admire the hotel from the outside. No need to step inside. Would recommend going down the block to...
Read moreThe space is beautiful and pleasant, but the quality does not match the high prices charged.
We were a couple with a child and ordered 2 espressos, 1 latte for a child (locally known as “pingo”), 1 éclair, 1 Berliner (bola de Berlim), and a bottle of water. It was around 11:00 AM, and we paid €21.50.
The éclair was dry, and the chocolate filling inside was still half-frozen. We were charged €6 for this subpar éclair, which I could have bought fresh from a bakery for €1.
The coffee, charged at €4 per cup and supposedly the flagship offering of this establishment, was far from exceptional and did not justify the price.
They also charged €4 for a small latte for a child.
I fully understand that a place like this has significant overhead costs and a prime location to justify, but when charging €6 for an éclair, it must not be served frozen. Similarly, when charging €4 for an espresso—a price on par with some fantastic locations in Paris, Switzerland, London, or New York—the coffee must live up to the premium price.
I will not return, nor do I recommend this place, unless there is a serious effort to improve quality and ensure it reflects the...
Read moreSuch a shame, it’s a lovely art nouveau interior with intricate details and generous mirrors. The service looked smartly dressed but I felt unwelcome and not well looked after. I ordered a cappuccino and two pastel de natas. The order came within ten minutes. The natas looked appealing but the coffee not so much. The foam had lost all its shape and the taste was at first ok but after a few sips simply vile. I had asked for oat milk but I had cappus with milk alternatives before and this one simply had zero balance or flavour profile. I couldn’t finish it it was that horrible. The natas had a chewy pastry and a sickly sweet & super sticky glaze. The absolute faux pas was the curdled custard which is unacceptable. Those are not pastel de natas. At no point did the service come over to my table or asked me if everything was ok or if I wanted anything (the password for the WiFi would have been nice). I had already eaten one nata but couldn’t do the second one. I flagged it to the service and they reluctantly and with raised eyebrows didn’t charge me for the one nata. The quality wasn’t given neither from the products nor from...
