Supposedly the birthplace of the famous Oporto snack. I've eaten several Francesinhas in my life but never have I tried a sauce like this. It is watery, but a slight taste of milk or cream, and probably only meat fat as the starting point (not tomato and/or carrots, like it is common all over the city). I would say it is a good sauce, but really far away from the contemporary ones. The meats are good, the steak could be a lot better, or at least more rare, and the bread is a bit too dry. Overall a great experience (they also have a good house unfiltered beer, that is a nice combination, despite the classic being a superbock). Very good desserts, clearly made in house. It's strange that you can't see the kitchen, but probably because of the small footprint of the building it is on another level. We really enjoyed our experience, this is a place, that by it's location and decorations could clearly be a tourist trap or a rip-off, but they've chosen to fulfill the purpose of keeping the traditional way alive and they even have the same employee since 1974!

This place was recommended by our bolt driver in Lagoa and it was the best food we had on our trip here. We had made a reservation that day and arrived at 18:00 right when they opened and were shown to our seats quickly. The food was absolutely delicious, the fish was grilled to perfection and the seafood rice was sizzling in the pot and filled with wonderful ingredients like mussels, prawns, and crab. The flavour of the rice in its stew was simply amazing. Since we sat outside, there were constantly flies, but the waiter noticed right away and immediately brought us a fly fan. We really appreciated the quick response, such an excellent observation and truly top-notch service. If our stay in Lagoa were to be longer, we would have definitely returned for another meal.

We'll be flying back to Porto just to dine here, the OG of the OG. Their Francesinha and tripas blew our minds esp when paired with their suggested house beer and wine. The francesinha sauce was such a killer, their fries/chips were crispy which we prefer and the saucy smoky tripe stew mingling with the rice made us melt in our seats. Service was very good coming from someone working in hospitality, the place has so much history but still managed to keep the vibes super cosy and classy without the pretention you tend to get in historical restaurants.

Avoid - the other good reviews of this place are clearly fake!

We went here because it was the only place open on a Sunday evening in the area. Looked welcoming but took an hour to get Francesinha and when it came it just had cheap ham and sausages, tasteless cheese and no egg on top. Decent places use steak. They explained it was the house special way of doing it.

Sardines were not gutted and were foul because the flesh was tainted. Seafood soup excellent.

Waiter apologised for delay after half an hour but food was still slow. People who came in after us left before us. When we left we saw that the francesinha was made in a panini toaster by the door and the sauce was already done in a saucepan so it should have taken 5 minutes.

We think the delay is a scam to make tourists buy more beer.

Oh, they added stuff on to the bill we didn't order too and then pretended not to understand any language...

We came to this restaurant to try the legendary "Francesinha", because we heard a lot about it and its history. It is recommended to arrive only when it opens, which is when it is empty ( or at least, in our case, that we came on Martes 8/22/23 ) The Francesinhas, too good. As they always say; for tastes, colored hay. Many people will like to compare the ORIGINAL recipe with others, but really, that has nothing to do with it. Each type of Francesinha is unique. We would like to say a big thank you to Mr. Toni, who was very kind and nice to our group. Thanks to him, we had a pleasant environment. Undoubtedly, one of the best places to spend with family...
