I don't like writing negative reviews but it's important for other travellers to read before going. This place is up about 10 flights of stairs (not a complaint but worth knowing), and at least when I was there, it was not tidy, clean or welcoming. I signed in, exchanged passport etc, wasn't really welcomed and/or given any information about the hostel location, nor was I shown around, I just kind of got handed my bedding on top of my bed, and... the bedsheet that was on the bed had like little 'bits' all over it? I felt very obliged to do a detailed iPhone-torch-inspection to make sure there wasn't anything nasty hiding on or under the mattress. If I'm being honest, the room didn't smell inviting, to put it nicely. There were like glued, dead bugs on the ground under the bed around the trimming of the wall, and it looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in at least a few days. Just not a good sign, and not hard to clean up to help the vibe be nicer. The bedding I had to make myself, which I don't mind, but the doona cover didn't have any buttons/zipper to keep the doona in, otherwise it was okay. Again, these things are easy to fix but they just haven't really bothered to go that extra step to make it more than just somewhere to stay.
The shower is one of those showers where you have to mop the bathroom floor yourself afterwards because water goes all over the floor. But at least there's hot water (for about 5 mins, fairly standard stuff for cheap hostels). I don't know if it was the owner, but a man there who was doing maintenance work hurried me out of the bathroom after about 10 minutes of use. I shaved, used the toilet, had a quick shower, and then was hurried out via a knock on the door and an impolite '10 minutes' comment. I feel like such a Karen but like... bro I'm using the facilities you offer, and not for an unreasonable amount of time whatsoever, respect my space when I'm in the bathroom. It's such an easy way to make a guest feel uncomfortable. As soon as I left the bathroom I just exited the hostel, it made my decision easy.
Some of the younger staff were definitely helpful though, and let me do my washing there, and answered questions when I asked etc. But if I had the choice again, I would just definitely go to a different hostel, there's plenty of...
Read moreThis isn't a hostel, it's a few apartments over a few floors that have been repurposed mostly for locals and the staff to live in. This is fine but the room we paid for shouldn't be getting rented out. It was basically a cupboard with a bed in, insanely hot with no a/c or fan. The young guy working was considerate but clearly knew how horrible the room was.
To get away from the room we tried to sit in the 'hostel' lounge area and garden on the 6th floor pictured but were told a group had booked the entire floor and we needed to leave.. I guess they also rent it on AirBnb when it suits them to close the reception and lounge area. When we tried to reclaim our key deposit on checkout (10 euro) we were queried why we had gone to the reception as it was closed for this group to have the whole floor. Like this was our fault? Weird.
Anyway, a very strange place. I feel bad for the staff but this place isn't a hostel and they're exploiting people who are visiting the city by offering such terrible accommodation. Belgrade is a cool place but having to sleep in here kinda ruined our...
Read moreWhere does one begin, I guess at the beginning where the receptionist welcomed me with an attempted scamming. From then on it was a cyclical decline. As I scoped my new accommodation (for three nights) I immediately the dire state of hygiene in the hostel.indescribables on the bathroom floor (of which I never witnessed being cleaned), squashes flies upon each wall, and mould in the kitchen. As well as that, the numerous workers smoked indoors, seeping my clothes in stale tobacco. The whole atmosphere was off with constant misogynist and creepy remarks made by one of the main workers (who tried to scam us). He seemed to lurk around every corner winking at me and making me and my friends veryyy uncomfortable. We didn’t feel safe in this hostel at all. As we were gladly checking out we overhead a fellow hostelee decrie how he woke up with a stranger in his bed and this was undisclosed to him when he purchased his stay. Overall our experience here...
