Where do I begin. They hustled us into paying an extra 150 euros and called the cops on us when we refused to get bullied into paying them. The cops empathized with us and knew this was their MO. It's sad they did not do anything to stop the horrible woman who calls herself a manager from extorting us. NONE of the employees were wearing their name batches so I won't be able to call out their names although I should be doing that as a PSA. Here are a few people you should be absolutely weary off should you have the misfortune of staying at this degenerate cesspool of a dwelling.
The general manager (at least this woman calls herslef that): An uncouth unprofessional head of the clan who demanded a payout for using the hotel towels. 150 ADDITIONAL EUROS FOR THAT! Came out barging saying you pay! You pay! Well we weren't having any of it and decided to see where this goes. Anyways ended up paying in the presence of the poilce. Extremely Vile person and can go to any extent to extract a penny
The receptionist: no name batch , and clearly not the smartest tool in the shed. She was evidently brought in by her GM to get in on the scam and kept insisting that we rude to her boss. In all the days we stayed at the hotel she never once greeted us nor did she help us with our stroller or even offer us water. She was clearly there to sit and pretty much space out on her recreational substance. You can identify her by a tattoo creeping out of her wrist and of course her spaced out don't care facial expression.
PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE IF SAFETY IS IMPORTANT TO YOU.
if you have already booked a stay here , I'm really sorry. If you can cancel and get away that would be wise. If not, follow these instructions very carefully:
Do not and I say do not leave any money behind not even in the safety deposit box.
desensitize yourself to the receptionist she is horrendous. And do not expect her to help you with anything.
Carry a bug spray, the house keeping tends to leave windows open for an insect open house.
House keeping will come in numbers of three and start dissecting the room. So be careful about your personal belongings. They will talk and laugh behind your back trying look for any damage to the room. EVERYDAY!
Make sure the room is clean before you leave everyday and after check out and TAKE PHOTOS AS EVIDENCE.
The place is abysmal and smells of cigarettes. So do not eat there , there are plenty of wonderful bakeries around and pubs and restaurants all over the city.
If this review does not deter you I'm not sure what will. Please go at your own risk.
Update 16th July 2024: I'm so glad they responded. As all of you can see how customer friendly this establishment is, based on their response. They've doubled down on their wild accusations and show no concern for two little babies who travelled along with their parents.
DO NOT STAY HERE IF SAFETY AND PEACE OF MIND...
Read moreThe hotel is very clean, the staff is very friendly. I may have stayed in the room with the best view. I stayed in 4-star hotels in Budapest and Vienna for 3 days each. From there on, Balkan Hotel was much more comfortable. The features of the hotel that I recommend are: Shower, cleaning, receptionists, location and price. The location is two minutes away from Republic Square. I walked everywhere. Knez Mihailova street is perfect for food, shopping and souvenirs. You can walk there in two or three minutes from the hotel. Its location makes the hotel stand out. I regret to point out the negative features: first, you will see from the photos that the room's photos and brightness are great. The bed and cushions are very comfortable. But I saw a big insect in the room while I was sleeping at night. I did not call the reception. Since I couldn't change rooms at that time and thought I could manage for two more days, I adapted to this situation. Frankly, I don't see this as a big problem. The big problem for me is this: last night, between 02:00 and 03:00, I was woken up by the shouting calls of the drunk man in the next room. I thought I was having a nightmare. I waited a little. He was hitting the wall very hard and screaming as if someone had stepped on his tail. Even though I couldn't understand what he was saying, the loud music got on my nerves at that time of the night. I think he was swearing in Serbian. He annoyed me a lot with his clapping, finger snapping, knocking on doors and his overly rude voice. Since it took about an hour, I called the reception and explained the situation. 5 minutes later the receptionist came and knocked on his door. He must have been embarrassed and didn't even open the door. I didn't hear any conversation between the two. I think he must have tried to reassure me. He called me again and said that he opened the door, talked to me, explained the situation, and said that he would not do it again and apologized. No matter how much the receptionist apologized to me, my night passed with the voices of a drunk man while I was supposed to be sleeping for the flight I had to catch in the morning. When I was leaving in the morning, someone else at the reception asked how my days at the hotel were and how satisfied I was. When he summarized the night's incident, he stated that there were drunks coming from the Exit festival and that Serbs did such things, and that these were "normal" and common in Serbia. I suggested that all of these were none of my business and that the hotel should not allow people who were drunk as hell 😊 As for the breakfast, although there was not much variety (it is close to the 4 star average), I did not doubt its taste. After this terrible incident, I leave the decision to you and your luck. Thank you for the service you provide and your...
Read moreI travel a lot with my husband and 2 daughters ( infant n toddler ) . This was our first trip to Belgrade n we were super excited but the excitement faded as soon as we checked in to the hotel. The a/c does not work properly, cooling is horrible. The shower was broken which made the bathroom completely drenched. It was informed to the staff on several occasions, one lady came finally to fix the shower ( which started leaking again the next day )but a/C was not fixed. There is no tissue box in the room. No coffee sachets in the room only tea n sugar, the glasses were very dirty. The staff at the breakfast area were very sweet n nice but breakfast was nothing to rave about. Location is perfect , right in the heart of the city. The worst n the most uncouth was the lady who calls herself manager of the hotel, she was extremely loud n made my infant cry , none of the staff there wear name badges or designation badge , they don't even wear proper uniform. One of the receptionist was least bothered about the customers n more interested in observing people's clothes. There is no wheelchair access or child pram access n nobody even bothers to help even if U struggling to get the pram inside the small door with so many steps. The lady who called herself manager is vicious n her whole intention is to extract extra money from customers while check out even if the room is already paid for . If U try to reason with her she shouts n calls the police . My suggestion is to never even book this hotel , if U still do please be careful not to leave any money in the room , U won't see it again . No prior intimation is given by the staff about the extra money that the manager will charge while check out. If U even try to reason with the uncouth lady she calls the police. House keeping was horrible so was the house keeping staff. It was the worst n the most unsafe hotel I have stayed in ever, to the extent that my daughters r still shaken. The manager lady refused to give her name , I wasn't even sure if she was the manager or some random person who took my money. Never ever will visit this place again. I have given one star cos there is no zero or minus here. Save urself the trauma n harrassment n...
