Hotel Marshal Garni — Hotel in City of Belgrade

Not Safe!

On the last day of our 2-day stay at this hotel, while we were not in the room, our bag was rummaged through, and our wallet was stolen. We were held responsible for this because we hadn't placed our wallet in the safe in the room. We requested video recording to confirm if anyone other than "House Keeping" had entered our room, but there was no response.

We were unable to reach the hotel manager at all, and he did not communicate with us. We couldn't take a police report because the police protocol required a translator to be present with us, and we couldn't find one. We also couldn't take a report again due to the need for us to return to our country.

Furthermore, we encountered the following statements from the reception regarding this situation:

How are we supposed to know your wallet is lost? Please take a police report... You are speaking loudly and disturbing our guests... It is entirely your fault because there is a clause in the your room paper stating that the hotel is not responsible for lost items.

Additionally, we later learned that a similar incident had happened before, meaning our case wasn't the first.

My advice to you is to always put your belongings in the safe, even if it's just 1 TL, otherwise they hold you responsible.

We were able to return home because we had our passports with us, but apart from the money we lost, the effort expended to replace our IDs and cards is much more. Of course, the sentimental value items like photos inside our wallet and other belongings will never come back.

2 gün konakladığımız bu hotelde son gün odamızda, biz hotelde yokken, çantamız karıştırılıp içinden cüzdanımız çalındı ve bunun için bizi sorumlu tuttular. Çünkü odada yer alan kasaya cüzdanımızı koymadığımız için. Odamıza "House Keeping" dışında başka birisinin girip girmediğine dair video kaydının yollanmasını istedik fakat herhangi bir dönüş olmadı.

Hotel yöneticisine kesinlikle ulaşamadık ve bizimle konuşmadı. Polis tutanağı tutturamadık çünkü polisler protokol gereği yanımızda bir çevirmen olması gerektiğini söylediler ve bulamadık. Ülkeye geri dönmemiz gerektiği içinde tekrardan tutanak tutturamadık.

Ayrıca bize resepsiyondan bu durum karşısında şöyle cümlelerle karşılaştık.

Sizin cüzdanınızın kaybolduğunu nereden bilelim? Lütfen polis tutanağı tutturun.... Yüksek sesle konuşuyorsunuz ve misafirlerimizi rahatsız ettiniz... Tamamen sizin hatanız çünkü odanızdaki kağıtta, kaybolan eşyalardan hotelimiz sorumlu değildir maddesi mevcut.

Ayrıca sonradan öğrendiğimiz kadarıyla benzer bir olay daha öncede yaşanmış, yani bizim olayımız ilk değilmiş.

Size tavsiyem 1 TL'niz bile olsa mutlaka kasaya koyun yoksa sizi sorumlu tutuyorlar.

First, I was looking for a hotel with direct Street access because I was with someone who has heart failure and can't walk very far. Lo and behold when we got there, the street was pedestrian only! Their excuse was it's not up to us. Guess what? It is! The gentleman who worked the front desk in the afternoon when we checked in was very kind and helpful, but that's where it stopped. The next morning at 5am, the lady at the front desk didn't lift her butt off her seat to help us even though I'd ask the day before if someone would help us with our luggage. The linens were clean so if you need a place to crash for a night, can walk and carry all your luggage to/from the front entrance, It's not bad. When we went to Belgrade for a business trip, we all stayed at this hotel. They have contracted taxi drivers from the airport to the hotel. The fee is 30 euros. But my friends said that it is cheaper if you take a random taxi, around 20 euros, unless they take advantage of you being a tourist and deceive you. The lady in the lobby was very helpful and attentive. The guys serving breakfast were also very friendly and caring. Breakfast options and rooms were not bad.
