Far away from India, Chris's Guesthouse was a safe, secure, comfortable second home for my stay in South Africa from 9thFeb to 19thFeb,2022.with my son.Very simple, friendly ,attentive to his guests needs, he not only provided me a kitchen with all amenities to cook my Indian foods but also took care to drive us from n to the airport, cook our breakfast n dinner himself. He provided several electric jacks when I reported him that my son's laptops were not working with the Indian jacks we brought with us.Whatever necessary information was needed starting from my son's exam centre to vaccination centre,he acted as our local guide. We stayed in Room7which was a suite consisting of two bed rooms,a bathroom,a drawing cum open kitchen n dining room. All rooms have large windows n there was an open portico also. The Guest house is fenced with electric wires n has a lovely swimming pool n garden with lots of trees n twittering birds. You will never feel bored even if you have to remain shut up in your room for fear of Omicron!Alison, his Manager,is equally a sweet lady with pleasant behaviour! There was a magical housekeeper who just washed my dishes n left my dishevelled rooms spick n span when he had gone outside!I would suggest everyone who are visiting Johannesburg from other countries ,if you want a safe, comfortable, affordable niche ,visit Chris n his...
Read moreHighgrove Guest House is fabulous! My husband and I recently stayed there for 2 nights before heading north to Vendaland for our son's wedding. HGH was a wonderful, quiet, calming respite after a LONG plane ride from America and before the wedding festivities began. Owner/host Chris picked us up at the airport! (Big perk) We enjoyed dinner at HGH both nights and felt like we were family. The food is delicious and healthy. Chris even snipped fresh herbs from his garden to spice up our meals. Everyone at HGH is friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were yummy with lots of choices: fresh eggs cooked to order, healthy/tasty breads, phenomenal coffee, fresh fruit, and so much more. HGH's location is beautiful: very quiet and serene, and I was surprised to learn it was completely booked because we hadn't heard other guests. The neighborhood begs to be explored, and HGH helpfully provides maps of multiple routes one could take walk/jog around the neighborhood. If you're looking for a place to stay in Johannesburg, look no further... HGH feels like...
Read moreIt was always going to be a challenge, my first solo trip to Africa in 2025 I mean, after my wife, a South African, passed away in 2023. We'd stayed at Highgrove several times during our many visits to South Africa and always loved it, and I didn't need to think twice about Highgrove as my Jo'burg base this time.||Chris and Alison and the team are the most welcoming, responsive and accommodating of hosts. As ever, they looked after me brilliantly in their very comfortable guest house nestled in its peaceful and tranquil gardens. It was lovely to again hear the hadedas in the mornings and see Roger; the little furry feline friend is such a character! The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable and the breakfasts and optional lunches and dinners are just right , especially for a weary traveller like me. If you're visiting Jo'burg, I highly recommend Highgrove for your stay. ||Thank you again, Chris and Alison; I'm very much looking forward to staying with you...
