Beacon Island Hotel – Update August 2023 – The hotel is a wonderful romantic place to stay with amazing views. There has been some additional effort put in with Live music at night and making springbok games an event to watch. I however was confused on checking in on seeing many checkers 60/60 supermarket app deliveries being made but after 24 hours I was doing the same. I have had a timeshare for nearly 40 years and travelled the world and I can say this is about the worst hotel I have stayed in for food. The service at breakfast and lunch is appalling and an attitude they are doing you a favour in serving you. God, forbid you want to use your Southern Sun card for a discount as there is only one machine available and one person who knows how to use it and is often not seen. The food and portions are supermarket quality and at 3 times supermarket prices. Expect 45 minutes to be served, 45 minutes to get your food and 45 minutes to pay. I also experienced the Robberg Room where to food was better. Calamari's starter was not great. The steaks with vegetables were excellent. Cheesecakes were okay. Service here was good. To make matters worse the breakfast that they used to be buffet is ala carte. Don’t bother as it is less than a wimpy experience and 3 times the price. I don’t mind spending good money on food if it is an experience. See my Siroccos review where I spent around R550 for two people, but this was a dining experience and well worth its money. I am going back in October and if not changed within 12 hours I will order from checkers. Vote with your feet and don’t support these restaurants as they don’t deserve it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fantastic 4 star hotel on the island at Plettenberg bay. Parking is limited. Concierge services was excellent. Venue is beautiful and if you go the right time around June you can sit in the main cocktail lounge and watch the whales give berth to the young otherwise out of season you will see seals and dolphins. Rooms although upmarket is a bit small compared to other timeshare places. Magnificent views from the rooms. Resultant service was a bit slow and the food. Some dishes were fantastic and some was dissapointing. Pot luck. The pizzas and seafood was good. Steak rolls and burgers were dissapointing. Breakfast was good

The BI is really grand and luxurious. The staff were very friendly. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that they don't really cater for the younger generation ans the view. Most of the activities are based on older people and the ones that aren't, you have to pay for. The lounge was a great place to sit at and just watch the sea. The music and live entertainment was yet again based on elderly people. The other thing that was a big downer was that we were put in a room on the first floor, which wouldn't be bad in itself, but we were on the robberg side. So we had a view but looking out the window we had a long stretch of roof (which we could walk on) and only then we could get to the view. It wasn't like we could just look out of the window and there was the beach or the ocean or the river. We had the roof. The experience is very much like a boat cruise. It's luxurious. There are activities. The food is deliscious and the drinks are VERY expensive.

We just came back from a 7 day stay at the resort. Loved every minute of our vacation. We kept our room sliding window open for that fresh cool breeze from ocean. Good food, good prices and very helpful & friendly staff. There is a daily program ( 1x for adults and 1 x for children ) of activities hosted by resort staff. We won some great prizes at the "spin & win". There is never a dull moment - between (1) daily program (2)chill at poolside overlooking the ocean while sipping on a cocktail(or two) (3)swimming in the sea (4)dining in one of the restaurants (5) taking a stroll on the beach after sunset/early morning (6)exploring the area -lots to do and see (7)going on a boat to swim with Seals/diving -all organized from the resort.

We have stayed many times at this establishment over the years… Unfortunately the last stay was a bit of a shocker. My 2 children and I were put in a room directly above the lounge where the hotel offers live music. I have no issue with the music but when you can hear it loud and clear in your room when you and your children are trying to have a good nights rest is unacceptable. What is even worse is that I spoke to Jason, Mabuti, Berni and somebody else that night with everyone of them saying it would be turned off at 22h30. At 22h30 the music was still playing after the alleged time and after trying to contact reception numerous times they eventually cut me off. I had no option but to get dressed and go downstairs to address the issue at had. I was told by Berni that the music by Frank was off when you could still clearly hear it. Only when I offered to walk with Berni to Frank to show me that the music was off (when it was still playing), did the music finally stop. This was after 11pm… |I was told that the manager would call me in the morning (tried to give them my contact details as they are different to what’s on their system - refused). I waited all day and no one called. I approached the desk on the Monday morning before I checked out and chatted to Mdu and he also assured me that Louise Otto would call. It has been a week since I have arrived home and I still have not heard from anyone. |The fact that it is acceptable to firstly put children and their mother above a lounge knowing that music will be played till all hours late into the night is pathetic and further that I was treated with so much disrespect and neglect for a mother that needs rest and relaxation and furthermore when staff cannot think to not put a family above the lounge blows my mind. During the fairly recent renovations, did no one think to sound proof the lounge from Frank’s DJ’ing? I’m disgusted, appalled, shocked and so disappointed in everyone at the Beacon Isle… Looking forward to what management have to say and what...

This is a stunning loction and a wonderful resort and can be an absolutely amazing holiday destination however there is a total lack of consideration for all guest at night!

I dont even know if management is aware of the numerous complaints of continuous noise, shouting, running and screaming, and lack of control over guest, inside the lobby, on all floors, in rooms and on the resort grounds outside way after midnight and going until most nights past 3 or 4am in the morning. It is totally ridiculous that a top resort like this has no way of controlling this.

The indoor swimming pool is also of great concern with kids jumping from the ledge unto little kids below which could have had grave consequinces if they would have landed on any of the guest with the on'duty 'life guard' either sitting on his phone or in this instance outside chatting with a friend. Kids totally running amock making it extremely unpleasant for other guest.

This has the potential to be a top star resort. I would urge management to spend a night or two during this time and make use of the playroom at the restuarant and indoor pool between 4-7pm as normal guest and tell me if you think this is acceptable.

Staff is truely friendly and really amazing, unfortunately the lack of control over unruley guest (or children of .. ) would make me think twice before recommending it.

(Although the location, staff, entertainment and everything else was...
