The Garden Route in South Africa's Western Cape is certainly one of the most beautiful regions in a country that is not short of wonderful landscapes. And Wilderness is one of the most beautiful places there. If your trip takes you there, then we can definitely recommend the Boardwalk Lodge for an overnight stay. Situated in a slightly elevated position and just a few minutes' walk from the beach, the rooms are individual cottages nestled in the greenery like chalets. The rooms are spacious and equipped with everything you need for a pleasant stay. All important areas, such as the charming breakfast room, can be reached via wooden stairs. The two owners, Chris and Melissa, have created a real gem in one of the most beautiful places in South Africa. And there's no doubt that we'll be returning here on our next visit to Wilderness. Had such a great time there. Loved sitting on the deck relaxing with a drink and the spectacular view. The kitchen needs some necessities like a proper cutting board and i found a dirty coffee mug in the cupboard (minor problems). A coffee machine would be a bonus as well, but they do have a French press so not the end of the world. The bellhop was really friendly and helpful. Please make sure everyone in your party is prepared to walk up a lot of stairs. But the view is definitely worth the walk. I Will definitely stay there again...

Really nice rooms with an amazing view and friendly staff! Unfortunately we visited during low season, so there was no breakfast but we got a voucher for a local restaurant instead... Felt a bit weird being the only guests without 24/7 reception or further security as well as walking in the dark to the city centre whilst load shedding (rooms were powered by a generator though).

Dear Owner and Manager - Boardwalk Lodge Wilderness

I've been thinking about this a couple of days and had decided that I had to bring this under your attention. We checked in on the 23 Dec for 6 nights and what a unpleasant stay. When we arrived we noticed a yellow mark on the duvet cover. I complained at reception and we got an new cover. The cleaners wasnt very helpful and it looked like they were irritated for helping, they were arguing with me that the stain is on the duvet inner. As if that makes a different. Accourding to me a 4 star must not have any stains. When I booked in January 2016 I've asked numerous times are this lodge a 4 star and it was confirmed it is a 4 star. The shower was a discrase. And because I paid more for the unit with the jacuzzi bath I could not use the bath because the bath was out of order, when enquiring they mentioned they are waiting for a part that will only arrive in the new year. So there was no bath. Everytime you use the bathroom there is a nasty smell coming from the basin. The shower was so dirty that I showered in my flip flops. Two days went by and I was busy doing my hair and by brush fell I couldnt believe what I saw. Spider webs underneath the dressing table. I know this is in a very tropical landscape but surely the cleaners need to make sure it is always clean. After night 3 we wanted to check out but couldnt find any place to stay. The pictures attached show how dirty it is under the bed. The previous visitors bottle cap and roses and lots of dust was lying there. The small fridge was so dirty that I didnt want to put anything in there. How can this be a 4 star and it is so dirty. The photos on the website is outdated and not a true reflection of the current status of the rooms. The only thing that was ok was the breakfast each morning until my husband found a hair in his omlette and we didnt eat the last 2 mornings at the lodge. I think R1340 for a small room and so dirty is a rip off. Never again will I stay at this...
