Inyathi Guest Lodge - Self Catering Chalets — Hotel in George

I have lived in Knysna for many years but recently moved. I was making a return visit to friends and family and booked at Inyathi. I was hugely disappointed. I found the accommodation sub-standard and was told by the host Helen, that it was Budget accommodation. I do not agree. The cottages and the studio which I booked are looking sad, are run down and are just not of the standard and quality which I know Knysna enjoys across the board. Having owned my own letting agency in Knysna I know the quality the Knysna landlords/ladies put out whether for long or short-term rental and certainly if signed to a booking online company then they must meet standards. The studio was very small and lighting was so bad that in the kitchen I could hardly see to cook. The TV has such bad reception that one could not comfortably watch but could at least listen. There were only 4 local stations available. There was no radio. The crockery and cutlery were at an absolute minimum. Saucepans were just 2: one large with an ill-fitting lid which had no handle so could not be used, and another so small it was really of little or no use. I had to borrow extras for the kitchen from friends. The shower was just "old" and in general the entire unit was tired and in need of TLC. No braai/barbecue tools were available and the braai unit was rusted with hole in it! We did get to look inside a couple of the cottages too and they were so basic and tired we vowed never to return again. We family of four, stayed here for couple of nights. Place is located at center of city from where market, places to visit, restaurants, everything is very close. ||||Rooms are nice and clean but big improvement is required on bathroom. Bathroom is very small and shower is there in bath tub only.||||Bathroom basin and kitchen basin both have two individual taps for hot and cold water so you can't adjust water temperature. ||||Bathroom is not attached to any of the room. It is in common area. ||||We also found utensils cleaned improperly. All required items were available except ice or ice tray in fridge and lighter to lit the gas stove. ||||Innocent is care taker there but most of the time, when needed, it is difficult to find him. We turned up Inyathi without booking. Our other accomodation did not work out. Brad and Jane made space for us, and we stayed at three different units over a period of 4 weeks at Inyathi. Friendly and very helpful hosts. They were always available to answer our questions. Great location near waterfront, town centre and easy access to bypass road. However still quiet and peaceful in the evenings. Fantastic barbeque facilities at all the units. We highly recommend Inyathi,and will be going back in...
