Take 1 Guesthouse Hongdae — Hotel in Seoul

Don't stay Take 1 Guesthouse Hongdae. It is a dirty, cold, unprofessional hostel. Please leave the hostel alone and save your life. It was the worst hostel I have ever stayed in my life. I am American and I had a horrible experience living there for 11 nights on Jan 14 to 24, 2021. There are lots of fraud and fake reviews on booking.com. Don't trust some good reviews at all. The hostel paid booking.com to get good reviews.||||1. The first day I arrived at the hostel at 8:00pm and nobody was there. because I see their website mentioned check in time is 3:00 pm to 9:00pm. Other customers helped me to call and text the owner many many times but the owner never picked up the phone call. I was waiting in a freezy cold, dirty lounge room until midnight when the owner replied to me. I used my American credit card and paid him my 31 days * $8 = $248 immediately when I saw him. ||||2. There was no heat at all. just a few times heating on each day. It was freezy cold. I was wearing my outdoor long, warm, big jacket to keep myself warm 24/7. I wore all my clothes on all the time to keep myself warm.||||3. The kitchen area is the worst and dirtiest place I have never seen. The sink always smelt, left food left over in the sink all day long. Dark, no lighting in the kitchen. The owner never showed up and he only comes to clean the hostel every 7-10 days. I only met him twice during my stay.||||4. the last day on 01/24/2021. I found the Thailand roommate who stole my food ( $100), and money ( around $50 ) in my room for 1 week already. because I had a big surgery that I could not drink, eat, or talk. I was vomiting all day long. I could neither breath nor sleep at all . I bought one month food since the first day I arrived. The thief used the name of BORROW to keep asking me for money for 1 week already. Unfortunately, she never returned me those cash.||||I called and tried to report the issue to the owner immediately but the owner never picked up the phone call or text me back as usual. I almost called the police. because the Thailand woman kept harassing and threatening me for 20 mins. And she hit me on my head around 5 times. I was so scared and tried to call the owner and the police. It was a horrible experience and I was scared the thief would kill me. Finally, the owner showed up.||||When the owner showed up, The woman was still yelling at and bullying me in front of the owner for around 30 mins in reception. The owner did not say a word. Finally, he let me move out immediately, not the thief. I had big surgery and I was very sick that the owner chased me away immediately. ||||Just leave this hostel alone. don't stayTake 1...

My 5-nights stay with Take1&Family Guesthouse was a decent one. My friends and I felt quite comfortable and inside the building was so warm even though the temperature out there was about 10-15 degrees Celcius at night. Beds and blankets were quite comfortable, room was spacious enough for 4 pax with a lot of luggages. Even though the building has no elevator, the staff will get ready for you at the reception (if you have already informed your arrival time in advance and your room is ready at that point of time) and help you to carry your luggages to your room.

Location of the guesthouse is the plus point. It is located near Exit 2 and 3 of Hongik Univ. station, which both are less than 5 mins of walking distance. As Hongik Univ. station is an interchange station for Seoul Subway Line 2, AREX and Gyeongui-Jungang Line, hence this place is quite accessible regardless you are coming from the Incheon Airport or Seoul...

By far the dirtiest guesthouse I’ve ever stayed in. The kitchen is atrocious with dirty counter tops and an old microwave. There’s a nasty lingering coffee smell which put me off having breakfast for the rest of my stay. ||||While I was there I had to swap to a different room because it was cramped and there were tons of mosquitoes throughout the night. It was unbearable! When I swapped rooms, they forgot to make my bed which caused me inconvenience because I had to now wait another 10mins for it to get done. There’s barely anybody at the reception on most days and when there is someone, 9/10 times they’re smoking with the main door open so the communal areas of the guesthouse smell like cigarettes. Just rude. ||||Thank goodness I packed antibacterial wipes because I wouldn’t have survived either way. The only positive I can include is how close it is to exit 2 of Hongik station and there’s a few convenience stores and cafes close by. This place will NEVER see me again.
