First of all, the good positives: The hostel is well located, between 5-10 minutes by foot to Puerta del Sol. The hostel is also located right on Tirso de Molina, which means that it's easy to get here from the main train station, Puerta de Atocha.||||The hostel is also fairly inexpensive, especially when compared to other hostels in Madrid (around 15 euros per night). Moreover, the wifi works fine, although not particularly quickly. The lockers are also spacious enough to fit a small backpack. ||||That said, there are some negatives. The hostel bathrooms need to be remodeled; in general, the bathrooms at this hostel are not great. There is only one laundry machine, which seems to be perpetually in use; it's very hard actually to get laundry done here.||||The hostel in general is not particularly clean. There is moreover not a good place in the hostel to sit and get any work done - your choice is the common room, which is just a bunch of couches, or the kitchen, which is often crowded and oily (as people cook there constantly).||||Finally, there were no precautions being taken against the spread of coronavirus here, no posters, pamphlets, or anything cautioning against it. Sick people were allowed to mingle freely with healthy people, without any precautions whatsoever taken. Actually at one point in my stay, the cleaning staff even got infected with a cold, which quickly spread throughout the hostel, infecting me as well. For these reasons, I can only give this hostel three stars. ||||In general, it's a cheap place to stay, but it's definitely not particularly hygienic, and it's certainly not a great place to get...
Read moreI had an incredible experience at the Way Hostel that I felt I needed to talk about.
First impression: When I walked in, right away we were greeted. The check in was seamless, like any other hostel we were just asked for our passports and some basic information about ourself. The front desk attendant then walked us through all of the best spots. Just be sure to ask him “what would you recommend for food?” He quite literally gave us his 10 favourite destinations on paper map. He circled the spots and wrote what they were the best for. The front desk staff actually paused and walked us to our rooms - taking time to explain all of the important aspects of the hostel.
Help: After we were settled in, our keys stopped working because we left them beside our phones (they are very easily demagnetized here, be warned.) We went to the front desk and they had the keys replaced in seconds with an apology as well.
Guests: Meeting people here is very easy. Everyone is in a good mood and eager to talk. I met two amazing people from Brazil and we ended up staying out until 7am together and getting lunch the next day. Everyone is willing to talk, just go up and say hello!
Location: Perfect. Actually perfect. It’s only a 20 minute MAX walk to virtually anything in the city. It’s only a few minutes from the plaza del sol and all sorts of food is highly accessible.
I’d recommend this place to any group or solo travellers who are in Madrid for a week or so!...
Read moreWay Hostel is very near the Tirso de Molina train station. It is also walking distance from Sol Metro station and Plaza Mayor. Gran Via is around 1km from this hostel. I can say the location is quite okay.||The bed is just okay. I am Asian and can fit into it. But you really cannot sit on the bed as the clearance is not that high.||The staff are nice and try as much as they can to answer the questions and help in your itinerary. Further to this, I lost the padlock key of my locker and they helped me open it. They have padlocks for rent in case you do not want to buy one but wants your things secured. ||The hostel has free bread and churros every morning. Very nice of them 😁||The kitchen and common area is quite small as they have a lot of guests. The luggage storage is also upstairs which means bringing it up by stairs. The staff helped me bring up my lugage when I checked out. I stored the luggage so I can roam around Madrid before my flight in the evening. It is...
