Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place at all. I’ve been to over 60 countries and I am very patient with hostels but I’ve never come across a check-in as shocking as this. Initially I had to queue for over 30min to commence check-in at reception, which is not an exaggeration. There was no communication to the many of us waiting or apology offered when we were being served eventually, I arrived early in the morning after a flight all the way from Cuba and was asked to wait until the afternoon in the bar downstairs until my room was ready, which wasn’t amazing but totally fair enough considering their policy. When I was finally called to check-in, I found my bed dirty and already used. I returned to reception and politely asked to have it cleaned and made up. I received a half-hearted apology but then half an hour later I was told it had been cleaned and found the bed in the IDENTICAL state when I returned to the room. I couldn’t believe it! On my third return to reception the bed was finally cleaned. I remained polite throughout but the staff did not seem genuinely sorry and while I cannot prove this, I feel was talking about me in Spanish right in front of me. I missed my walking tour which I had booked due to all of this and so the delays and bad service I received here really impacted my one day-visit to Madrid, which is a shame. Compared to other places, the value of the room is actually good and the location couldn’t be better, but the rooms and bathrooms. while eventually cleaned, are crammed, tiny and lack any atmosphere. I ended up receiving a 50% discount on my stay after speaking to the manager, which I appreciated, however I feel for the trouble I went through I should have received full compensation and then some. Sadly a terrible experience overall and I will...
Read moreHostel Mola. Room 108, bed 5 (lower bunk & street facing). Noisy if you want open the window a bit if your room gets stuffy. Brilliant location and easy to get to. The easiest way that I know of is just one bus, door to door about 45 mins, costs €5, if coming from Suarez Airport. Come out of the terminal, cross over the road, turn right by the "yellow pillars" that hold up the building, catch the Express 24, 2 stops after getting driving out of the airport, get off at Plaza de Cibeles, walk to Hostel Mola (check a map of Madrid). The welcome from staff is brilliant, very friendly, helpful and approachable. €10 deposit for room card key (returned on checkout provided everything is as you left it). Welcome drink to get to know your fellow hostellers with a pub crawl soon after as well Flamenco classes (which I didn't take), free tours (where you donate however much you think your tourguide deserves afterwards) and numerous other I cant remember. Dont forget your earplugs. The drawers/lockers beneath the bunkbeds can be noisy when opening/closing, tip; turn them 180 degrees and add a little bit of shampoo to the spindle of each side of the drawer wheels ;) Automatic lights switch on when you use the ensuite bathroom, it'll kill your nightvision! The €4 breakfast is more than sufficient than going out to find a place to breakfast. Fast, cheap, convenient and only 2 floors down in the hostel. They lockers are cheap as chips if you need to leave you bag there for a few hours before you head out of Madrid etc, we paid €4 for the largest locker for 6 hours, brilliant...
