Unfortunately, my experience here was very disappointing. I woke up with multiple swollen bites and, after checking the bed, found bugs, rubbish, and lost items underneath and around the mattress. It was clear the room had not been properly cleaned despite claims that it’s cleaned daily. I immediately contacted the owner and shared photos. He initially said he’d have the cleaners inspect the room and confirm what the bugs were but after that, he stopped responding entirely, only replying when I followed up about a refund they offered. My friend also checked her bed the next morning and found the same: dirt, rubbish, and a general lack of cleanliness. The photos speak for themselves they show the bugs, and the condition of the beds. This review isn’t just about the bites or a refund it’s about how you treat paying guests when they raise legitimate concerns. The location is great so that is one positive! Would not recommend.

Worst hostel I’ve experienced on the Camino. Very catchy from outside and well located, but felt like was not cleaned since a month. The room was smelly (no space for shoes in common areas), extremely hot (useless fans which were very loud though) and the worst part was how dirty it was. As you can see in the pictures the showers are full of black mushrooms and the services extremely dirty. After we showered we kindly make a note to the frontman, and he sent a lady that just mopped the floor moving the water around. The frontman at the desk was very snooty, unhelpful (he told us that the dirt in the toilet that you can see in the pictures was instead a cleaning product!) and started flirting with the girls of our group (they did not appreciate it, but enjoy it if it’s what you are looking for). AVOID IT!

We got to KM 0 at the end of our way to Santiago. We had been in very clean and well organized hostels along the way, so we did not expect to find what we found at KM 0. We were told that we would have been 7 in a room of 10: the room had instead 11 beds and 13 bed spots. Overall we slept there in 12, which would have been fine, except for the fact that the room was too small for hosting 12 people, was underroof with practically no windows to open, without any air conditioning and only with only a couple of very rumourous fans. Moreover we had only one WC in the room. The bathroom was smelly and appeared to have not been cleaned before our arrival (please see the photo attached). The terrace is nice and the location is perfect to see the center but overall I would not recommend it.

Other than the malfunctioning, abused sliding door lock of the bathroom, my ground floor 6-bed room was great. Free towels, sheets changes daily, Black out curtains and card key lockers and doors. And soda and snack bending machines, kitchen, washer dryer machines are all next to my room. Lots of table and seats for scattered lounging for the owl guests.

There were some inconsiderate middle aged man and woman who would repeatedly roll and smoke weeds outside the window at night and another man running unwashed clothes in the dryer, spreading unpleasant BO and germs in the drum And to the air in the common space.

This happened during the unsupervised late night hours. I think they can raise the daily fees from us to hire the night staff every night for the security or the incidents or disputing unruly guests. And, this would avoid people opening doors for the unregistered strangers in the building.

The r-daynstay was all great. Best location near the pilgrim office and chapel, restaurants, and the shops that sell authentic souvenirs at a lower price, and easy access to more historic attractions, and easy route to the mirador park and the new town area, without walking through the old web of the Santiago Cathedral south. The taxi was accessible onto our street for early morning departure to the railway station, too.

I will come to stay in this place again in the next trip.

This is the 2nd best featured hostel during this Camino Frances trip, and the top...
