Colombo Villa — Hotel in Colombo

While our overall stay at Colombo Villa Collection had its highlights, we feel it’s important to share an unfortunate experience that affected our visit. On the day of our checkout, although we were informed we could remain on the property until 12pm, the villa had also been rented out to another party from 8am. This resulted in unexpected disruption and a clear clash in the use of the space.

We had spent a significant amount of money on our stay, and expected to have full access to the property until the agreed checkout time. Unfortunately, we were only informed of the overlapping booking late the night before, when the owner visited us briefly. While we acknowledge the gesture, the conversation seemed more focused on avoiding negative feedback than offering a sincere apology or solution. The issue was largely brushed aside rather than responsibly addressed.

That said, the villa itself is beautiful — clean, peaceful, and well-maintained. The service staff were warm, attentive, and helpful throughout, which we genuinely appreciated. With better communication and more respect for guests’ time and investment, the experience could easily match the quality...

The people here seemed pretty nice, until one guy that has been working there for only a few months stole my ring that I had left in the bathroom before going out with my family for the day to do some other things, everyone was positive that this person might have taken it because there is evidence where I left the ring, the guy obviously started saying things like I might have dropped it or left it somewhere even though there’s a perfect stain of the ring where I left it on a wooden surface, they also sent the same person to check our whole room to see if It’s dropped somewhere, the whole time the guy showed no sign of remorse and was trying to make odd small talk, they apparently checked his things much later after the incident. Anyway I of course didn’t get my ring back and I have no doubt that this person took the ring, most of the other people working there had good hospitality, I am not aware if they allowed the man to continue working there or not which is concerning.

EDIT: It is a little bit relieving to know that at least the person doesn’t work here anymore, I think the place has a nice vibe and almost every other person working here...

The villa is in a great location, close to national museum and other sites. With their free bikes you can get to the main spots (incl sea side) within 10-15 minutes. The house itself is charming, really authentic feel, very clean and welcoming. The pool is a bit small but nice enough to take a dip and cool off. Also very clean and right amount of chlorine. Even though there is staff walking around they make themselves almost invisible so you really feel like you have a lot of privacy. We finished our 2 week trip here, so it was perfect for final relaxing before our flight back. Arranged a driver to the airport in the middle of the night for only 2800 rupees (plus tolls). Also recommend for beginning because the manager/owner really can give great trips. He’s clearly very experienced in the hospitality sector and all staff are working with the same service-driven mentality. Very friendly and welcoming.
