The Commons, located on Flower Road in Colombo, Sri Lanka, is a fantastic hangout spot that offers a perfect blend of a chilled atmosphere and a well-designed interior. The seating arrangement is thoughtfully arranged to create a comfortable and relaxed ambiance, making it an ideal place to unwind and spend quality time with friends or family.
One of the standout features of The Commons is their incredible food selection. They offer a wide range of dishes, from Western cuisine to traditional Sri Lankan delicacies, ensuring that there is something to satisfy every palate. The variety of options available is truly impressive, and it's a delight to explore the diverse flavors and culinary experiences they offer.
While the food at The Commons is exceptional, there is room for improvement when it comes to order accuracy. During my visit, I ordered the prawn Mongolian rice, but unfortunately, it was not available. The waiter took the liberty of ordering a chicken Mongolian rice instead without consulting me. Although my mom was obliging and accepted the substitution, I believe it would have been better if the staff had consulted the customer before making such decisions. However, apart from this incident, the overall service and hospitality provided by the staff were commendable.
One dish that truly stood out during my visit was their fried rice. Although fried rice is a common dish, The Commons managed to elevate it to a whole new level. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the dish was cooked to perfection. It was undoubtedly one of the best fried rice dishes I have ever tasted, and I highly recommend giving it a try.
In conclusion, The Commons on Flower Road in Colombo is a must-visit hangout spot. The interior and seating arrangement create a chilled and inviting atmosphere, while the wide variety of food options cater to all tastes. While there may be some room for improvement in terms of order accuracy, the overall service and hospitality provided by the staff are commendable. And of course, don't miss out on trying their amazing fried rice dish, which is a...

We visited The Commons- Coffee House @commonscoffee for a late lunch and this is a fusion restaurant in Flower road, Colombo 7. The restaurant is not that big, with a few tables in a room split into two levels, as well as some further private seating area and the kitchen is open to view. It’s also a place where you can work or read while you eat, surf the internet or hold meetings. They got an extensive menu with hundreds of items, alongside a roti cart outside with traditional Sri Lankan food. We ordered Chicken Lasagna (800 LKR) came with side of salad. Chilli Prawn Pasta (850 LKR) had a good texture and a pleasant cheese flavour with a decent amount of prawns, but chilli would not have gone a miss. Chicken Kottu (545 LKR) was on point with finely cooked kottu, tender and well seasoned meat. It was worth the price. Mongolian Chicken Rice served with chilli paste (740 LKR) also proved to be a lovely dish with soggy rice so you wouldn't need a curry next to that. It was spicy and delicious. Waffle with Fruit and Cream (450 LKR) wasn’t crispy and soft in the middle, and overpowered by the whipped cream, and fruits were cut into huge. It was like a mess, not appealing. Cookie Nut Frappe (540 LKR) was a real doubt because it was missing out of cookies. It was average. Strawberry Milkshake (420 LKR) was wonderfully creamy and yummy. Choco Chip Fudge Frappe (LKR 540) was thick and rich with fudge, had overwhelming undertones of chocolate. It was really filling. . . All prices are exclusive of 10% service charge, vat and other tax. Remember that the VAT and service charge on products can increase the price considerably.
. . The restaurant has clearly carved out some sort of niche with the locals and foreigners. Do not visit this place if you are dying hunger and looking for a quick place. Because they take time lot longer than...
Read moreI really liked the ambience but it only makes sense if you're going to spend at least a couple of hours there, it's supposed to be a cosy easygoing place. I kinda rushed it cuz she was running late 🙈 The food was decent, baked macaroni with chicken (and herbs for seasoning) was pretty good but there was something that felt a bit at odd, almost stale like, maybe just my tastebuds. French fries were good but the portion was a bit small, wish it could've been a bit larger. And the waffles (chicken & mushroom) looked a teensy bit small at first compared to normal waffles but that's cuz it's really thick with everything inside :D well food could be considered good although I've had better (for eg casserole, elite), but good considering the setting as well.
My only other probs were, the food for two came in at 1860 but the menu is priced without taxes and the usual 10% service charge... So add the tax and the cost ballooned to 2400 And a common problem with all places....just a bottle of water to drink, that was twice the msrp, charging double for water although practiced everywhere doesn't make it right, being that it's like an essential item. And maybe they forgot but they didn't provide glasses, she was too thirsty to care and just opened it and drank directly :3 and the staff was helpful but maybe there was some segregation there, have some room for improving treatment to reel in new customers I guess :3
Overall nice place, but around those prices I could go to Waters edge too since it has 'slightly' better ambience ;) and...
