An old 'esteemed' colonial home and even with my limited architectural experience, I found it blindingly obvious! It doesn't call itself a hotel (only has 6 rooms). Our room was large and equipped with (large) dark furniture of the period, thus is dark. Lighting is low and it is quite difficult to read by it. However, the Bungalow is well worth a visit, bathrooms are a decent size (towels a bit shabby), plenty of consistent hot water and toiletries, bed is big and comfy. The Bungalow is on a quiet road, an absolute haven yet within easy reach of bonkers Colombo.||Food is beautifully and lovingly prepared. Not a huge choice for dinner, (maybe a selection of 6 for each course) but proudly served. Portions are not huge (as in many typical Sri Lankan establishments) but are filling and hugely enjoyable. There is also a good selection of home made ice creams. Breakfasts are filling, a varied selection of goodies served with a smile..||The jacuzzi and swimming pool are squeezed into a beautiful patch but don't expect to work off that breakfast - it is quite small but perfectly formed and I imagine very ||refreshing.||The rooms do not have a fridge or kettle but pots of tea/coffee are available from the kitchen (supplementary cost). These and a reading lamp would take the Bungalow to 'boutique'...
Read moreHavelock Place Bungalow is a lovely colonial-style house with character, a peaceful garden, and a small pool. The location is convenient — very central, with a grocery store right next door.||Unfortunately, the property seems to have lost some of its former charm due to poor maintenance and slow service. Our bedroom had a musty smell, the curtain cord was drooping, and only a thin bedsheet was provided as a cover, which was inadequate for comfort. The bins in both the room and bathroom had no liners, which felt unhygienic. Housekeeping standards were disappointing — there was visible dust on the floors, and the bathroom didn’t feel properly cleaned. The toilet was particularly dated, with a worn and unstable seat and a very old flush mechanism that looked unclean.||Breakfast service was extremely slow; even with advance notice, it took nearly two hours for something as simple as eggs and toast.||Security could also be improved. The property is open to the street at all times, and there seemed to be a few male staff members loitering near the entrance and check-in area, which might make solo female guests uncomfortable.||With better upkeep, hygiene, and management, this bungalow could easily regain its former elegance and charm — but as of now, it falls short of...
Read moreThe worst hotel we had so in Sri Lanka. The first room we were given was extremly moldy- the wall was fluffy! How can you expect anyone to sleep there? The second room was nicer but we were not able to sleep due to the hard mattress and the noise from the AC in the room and the noises from 3 different ACs on the terrace. Also the AC had only a "full blast" option which was loud and we were freezing. The lights from outside the room were on all night and were shining through a window over the door. The hotel is not reacting to questions or messages at all. Actually we wanted to check in very early (4am) and even booked the night before but we never got an answer if that is possible. When our flight got canceled, we were writing a message again that we are checking in at 2pm but no answer as well. When we arrived they stated as at Booking as "no-show". Would not stay...
