Dolce Italia — Restaurant in Colombo

It was my first time coming here! I had heard about this place from my friends and workplace and finally got a chance to come here on Thursday, 18 May 2023 for a relaxing working dinner with some of my colleagues.

I had the spinach and ricotta ravioli with pink sauce (mix of white and red sauce), 2 slices of fruitti di mare (seafood pizza - which is something I haven't tried EVER, and I do not typically eat seafood in restaurants), a cioccolata calda (hot chocolate) & an affogato (shot of espresso with cold vanilla ice cream). Boy, was the food amazing! It knocked my socks off, and I just sat there in a food coma, processing the various textures and taste profiles. The hot chocolate was thick and chocolatey, with no trace of sweetness. And the ravioli, which is my favourite Italian dish so far, was filled with thick ricotta and herby spinach which made for a very satisfying main dish. The pizza dough and sauce along with the shrimp and other seafood was very appetising. Lastly, the affogato cut down the richness of the food and its punch awoke me for the ride home.

I have a physical disability and use a motorised wheelchair. Sashi, who was our server, was very attentive to my needs and was always quick to help me out with the dishes and placement of my personal effects on the table. His service started from the time I stepped out of the vehicle, helping me get to my colleagues while my parents took care of other stuff, to the time I was ready to get in to the vehicle. Update: 29th June 2023 On my previous visit 2 weeks ago, I gave Dolce Italia a 5 star review. However, last night at dinner, it was a different story. The place itself was nice and casual. We sat outside and it was very pleasant. The service was awful. We had asked for hot water to drink. As it wasn't brought for about 20mts, we had to ask for it again. The bread sticks were served without olive oil and vinegar and we had to ask for that. When the dishes were being cleared, the server was reaching over the table instead of going around. The lasagna my friend ordered was cold and had to be sent back for re-heating. The salt and pepper both were stuck inside the shakers ( not re-filled daily?) and we had to send it back as well and get another. On the positive side, the servers themselves were very courteous and friendly. The salmon pasta I ordered was delicious and the lasagna, though cold, was flavourful.

Previous post: The food is authentic Italian. They have a wide variety of items on the menu. This was our first Italian meal in Sri Lanka even though we have been here four times already. I always doubted being able to find authentic Italian food in Colombo. To my surprise this was seriously a good choice. Beginner's luck I guess. We showed up without prior reservation which proofed to be a wrong decision. I recommend booking in advance. We were there at 5 pm and the next booking they had was for 7:30 pm and it took me a good 10 minutes to persuade them to get us in. Finally we managed to get in. The team was so cold and not really very welcoming unfortunately. They didn't even bother opening the door despite the fact that we had an infant in a stroller. This did not impress me one bit. They did not even say thank you as were leaving. We ordered a crossionat which never came. The lady owner showed up towards the end of our meal and she was very welcoming and made up for what her staff failed to do. The food however was very delicious. The Rositto was really nice. The place is clean and the ambience is reasonable. I suggest they council the team and train them in the etticate of handling customers. It is very evident that they are lacking in that department.
