Perfect Location for Backpackers and Nature Lovers

This hotel is in an ideal location for travelers with backpacks. It’s practically part of Grindelwald Station—just cross the zebra crossing in front of the train station and you’re there.

Noise isn’t an issue at all—this is the final stop for the tram (yes, it’s a tram, not a train). At night, it’s completely silent. We slept peacefully without a single disturbance.

The staff were friendly and approachable. Breakfast was fantastic—my kid loved it! Just ask for coffee or tea, and they’ll happily provide hot chocolate for children.

The hotel is very close to both the cable car station and the paragliding office. They also offer a free bus pass, which I used like a hop-on, hop-off tour bus around town. Even better, you can show this pass when purchasing gondola tickets to get about 14% off. (Note: the kiosk doesn’t apply the discount.)

The room was spotless and cozy—truly felt like home.

If I have the chance, I’ll definitely return with my family. And after your paragliding adventure, don’t forget to visit the adorable alpacas near the landing zone!

If you’re traveling without a car or tour guide, this hotel is the perfect base.

One last tip: I lost my backpack, but the SBB Lost Property Service made it easy to file a report—everything here works smoothly. Finally, I found it at Interlaken Ost.

And don’t forget—request a mountain-view room when booking. It’s absolutely worth it!

But it’s a bit expensive! Some staff members didn’t seem to be doing their jobs properly, especially considering the high price of the...

It's unbeatable convenient because you can walk to your room in 3 minutes right after getting off from the train. The price is good too.

However I didn't have a good experience here. Warning: The service is okay but not responsive when you run into noise issue. Also There's no AC so you need to close your Windows even it's hot indoor. Don't stay here if you are sensitive to noise.

Several weeks ago, I made my reservation and noted I'm visiting Switzerland to celebrate my birthday and hope to get a room on the south side if possible. I didn't expect it to be accommodate for 100% so I didn't complain after I still got the room facing north. I was waken up at 7:30am due to at least 3 types of loud construction noise at the train station with the windows all closed. I called the front desk, the staff said rooms are full and they can do nothing, no complementary no exchange or refund just nothing. He asked me to come back at 11am to talk with the manager but no guarantee on anything. I have plans to take the steam train in Brienz so I just called them in the afternoon. No one picked it up. Then I sent email to them, but never got a response. This was super disappointing and time wasting. In the previous hotel I stayed, they had a notice in elevator apologizing for the constructions nearby, but at here, no notice, no apology, no any reaction to guest's complain.

I decided to leave earlier the 2nd day so that the noise won't bother me and influence my good mood towards the amazing views...

This is my first time leaving a negative review. I spent over 700 swiss franc to stay at this hotel for 2 nights. I traveled all the way to Switzerland with the expectation of booking a room with a private balcony, drawn in by the picturesque online images of dreamy hillscapes. To my dismay, upon arrival, I was given a ground-level balcony with a large tree obstructing the view, and a neighboring low building blocking most of the scenery. To make matters worse, the balcony was shared by three units!!! When I confronted the reception about this, their response was that this was the only option available, and I could switch to a room without a balcony if I didn't want it. I insisted that at the time of booking, the room was advertised as having a private balcony, not the shared one I was given. I would not have booked it had I known it was a shared balcony, and this was not clearly stated in your description. I feel deceived. In the end, they refused to accommodate my request, claiming that all other rooms were fully booked. This experience has truly soured my otherwise enjoyable trip to Switzerland. Very disappointed...

Rooms were pretty clean and nice, bed was comfortable, breakfast and restaurant were good but a bit expensive. Google advertises that there is a full-service laundry under Amenities. However, there’s a flyer at the front desk advertising that there’s actually a “Coin-Laundry Self Service” at a nearby hotel. I went to go do my laundry to find that it is ONE machine. For the whole… neighborhood? Town? I don’t know how many nearby hotels they advertise this to, but I imagine at least a few. That being said, very misleading and false advertising. I had only a few hours during my group trip to do my laundry but couldn’t do it due to other people ahead of me and the fact it is ONE machine. Resorted to doing hand washing laundry, hopefully they dry before I have to leave in the morning. Very disappointed. If you have laundry to do, either get there right when they open, be ready to wait a while, or do your laundry before/after you go to Grindelwald.

Rooms: The hotel offers rooms with nice views, though unfortunately, we were given a smaller room with limited ventilation and a less impressive view. The room also had noticeable dust, which was a bit disappointing. On the positive side, the bathroom was clean and well-maintained. Service: The service from the head staff and reception team, including the manager, left much to be desired—I didn’t find them particularly warm or accommodating. However, the other staff members were lovely, especially those in the breakfast area and the helpful team downstairs who assisted us with our luggage. Breakfast: Breakfast was enjoyable, with a good selection of teas and coffees. My favorite part was the unique butter machine—it was clean, fun to use, and the butter tasted great! Location: The hotel is perfectly located right next to the Grindelwald train station, making it a very convenient choice for travelers who want to avoid carrying luggage far.

I revisited the Derby Hotel after 14 years and honestly it's modernised so well. The room was clean and reasonably spacious with an AMAZING view, though the provided bath amenities are an all-in-one shower/hand soap/shower gel, so most people would probably prefer bringing their own shampoo at least. The rooms lack AC but given the climate you really don't need it. The staff are friendly, multilingual, and helpful, and the location right next to Grindelwald station is so convenient. The hotel restaurant was an unexpected surprise; though breakfast is limited, it's enough to get you started, but our dinner was exceptional. We had something off the chef's (seasonal) menu, a herb crusted pork loin served with asparagus and potatoes and it was sublime. The fondue we had was also good and significantly cheaper than prices in Luzern!
